ECU, Wiring, Sensors

#140255 So I swapped the head on my d15b7 for a y8 head along with new dizzy cap, rotor, plugs and wires. It cranked up and ran fine for about 2 days then it just died and wouldn't start (got fuel, but no spark). Turns out the ICM was fried. Replaced with another dizzy (it was cheaper) and it started back up again. Yesterday it just died at a red light the same way. Both times this has happened starting from a stop in 1st gear. It just stalls out and then bye bye distributor. Does anyone have any ideas as to why it keeps frying distributors. I want to fix the real problem before I throw any more money at it. I am using a p28 ECU and wired the vtec myself. All the other wiring is stock. My car is just sitting at a random doctors office in town, I don't want to call AAA again. Could a bad ground on my vtec solenoid cause it to surge a Zap my dizzy?

#140272 He should have not had to go through re-wiring to convert OBD2 dizzy to OBD1, the D15b7 dizzy bolts right up to the y8 head perfectly. If you're using an OBD2 dizzy, get rid of that and just put your D15b7 one on :thumb:

Since it happens when you are starting out in first gear, it seems like it is happening when the car is starting to lunge forward which means maybe an exposed wire is moving and causing a short.
It's the standard answer, but double check your wiring.

#140351 it is an obd1 dizzy off of a d15b7. I just went a soldered the rest of the connections for vtec. that is the only thing I can think of. I have the vtec solenoid grounded where the battery ground is. I am headed to the junkyard to find another icm or dizzy. Can anyone confirm which icm's will work on my dizzy. this ebay auction leads me to believe the used the same icm on lots of distributors. thanks for the help

#140370 you are correct that Honda uses many of the same parts in different models.
The vendor is stating that it is the correct part for your application.
if you get it and it is not the correct part you can return it.
You can email the vendor any questions you have before buying the item.

#140410 I know that one will work with my car, but what I was asking was can I go grab an icm out of any one of those cars in a junkyard and it will work in mine. I would assume so, but just wanted to make sure. I will head to the junkyard before I buy something new.
