Turbo and Supercharger discussion

#68328 it depends on what turbo you have. I like it on the passenger side because it is less of a bend to route it where the stock header goes under the oilpan. But then you have less room for the intake on the drivers side. It really depends on your exact setup though.

HI,

I think the best way to make a down pipe to make sure its not in the way of anything,

Is Custom make it out of old or used exhaust, even an exhaust shop can weld it up 4 u.

Unless u can find a very good deal, then go for it! :thumb:

We snailed a D15, and used a small IHI turbo, and the downpipe was hitting the OIL pan, so we just found some old exhausts from junkyard, with the bends we want , and cut and fit it together, then welded it.

GOOD LUCK !

#69153 I like the compressor inlet side towards the drivers side, using a mushroom (HKS Super Mega Flow like I have) air filter gives you enough clearance as they're just 100mm (about 4") tall :)

Then put the downpipe there were you have to bend it as less as possible, more bends = bad.
And use stainless steel, weld-turns are available everywhere here in Holland, so I guess they're as well in the US.

Spend some bucks on your exhaust plumbing, it's worth it doing shit right the first time.

#69159 When I decided to go boost this was a decision of mine as well. I also found it more economical and had better flow if the compressor housing was facing the drivers side.
After that all I did was take some welding rod to get the correct angles, bought a coulple 3 inch 45* and 90* bends and welded up my D/P. Took maybe 2days at the most, and that includes mounting and adjusting time. To save from buring the oil pan I just got header wrap and wrapped the entire D/P with it.
No worries after that. I can bolt any exhaust with a 3 inch triangle flange to the end of the D/P and call it a day. If you are going to try this, make sure you place some sort of flex pipe in between the exhaust and D/P. This will aid in breaking bolts, welds and other components due to engine vibration. Wleding the flex pipe is a little more involved, but if you are skilled with a welder, or have someone who is skilled its not to difficult.
