ECU, Wiring, Sensors

#66164 As the threads I post asking for help regarding my wire tuck in my engine bay grow in number, the straws at which I measure my patients with decrease steadily. This is getting out of hand. I completely removed my wiring harness today and realized two things:

1) I have learned TONS in the process of doing this.
2) I'm in way over my head.

I don't even know what to do about this project anymore guys. When you hear the term "blood sweat and tears" well I'm just about to donate the last ingredient in that little sentence.

Basically, I have the manual for the civic. Yeah, it tells me where the plugs go, but it doesn't tell me what they look like so I don't know which one is which. I don't have enough references online to tell me EXACTLY where to put each plug and what wires come out of them. There are pictures of wire tucks on here...but finished products don't help me. And Teal is the only one with pics of him DURING the process, but they are too vague to describe the wiring.

I'm so lost I'm going mad...I have this car that doesn't work that I NEED to so I can drive, and this mass of wires that I can't make anything out of.

Anything you guys can do would help...I really need a pic of a laid out harness that's been modified WITHOUT the wire loom and electrical tape on it. And then the SAME wires installed on a b15b7 engine also, WITHOUT the electrical tape so I can see the wires. No confusing diagrams and weird lettering depicting what COULD be...I need a close up shot of every plug in the engine bay so I can figure out what to do. I can't take this anymore. :x

#66184 Ok...whew...deep breathe...OK...now...

I took apart my engine to a point where I knew exactly what I was doing and didn't do anything I hadn't done before.

I took off my valve cover, my distributor, intake, intake manifold, exaust manifold, radiator, drained out all the fluids, all the wire loom, strut bar and the entire wiring harness.

I laid out all the pieces neatly on shelves and I will clean the entire engine bay and whats left of the engine inside.

Then I will put the engine back together piece by piece, touching up any paint that needs to be and cleaning all the pieces thoroughly. Then I will have a clean engine and I will know that there isn't anything wrong with it.

I still need your guys' help with the wiring though. I've worked on engines a lot so I know my way around alright. But I've only done basic wiring. This is very overwhelming.

#66216 Just breathe. Wiring is nothing to be scared of as long as you have the common sense to realize that there are powers, grounds, signals, switches and realys. Now I know at first glance it does look overwhelming but its really not. In Honda specific I believe there are only 3 or 4 connectors that are the same. So its not the end of the world. When you started the tuck did you remove all of the connectors? Answering this will help most of us give you some advice.
Lets start from here, post a pic and or pics of your current situation. The wire harness is what I mean. Lay out YOUR harness on the ground with maybe a couple of close ups of the connectors and I'm sure one of us on here will be able to throw the pic in photoshop and give you little "bubbles" with the name and location of that said connector.
This will get us started.

This is where my harness is at right now. I keep making it worse the more I try to make any sense out of it. I've extended too many wires and cut other several times to lengthen/shorten/untangle them. I don't know what to do with this.

What if I took a picture of each plug one at a time...then you guys can help me figure out where they go...I can extend the wires from there.

#66400 Ok this is gonna be a long thread...

start with some good close up pics of the problem areas, the sensors you're having problems with :thumb:

As you figure out what each sensor is, put a label on the end of each wire like this http://www.6thgearadvertising.com/misc2 ... uck/60.jpg

#66401 DJSilikie yes it would help alot of you did take a pic of each connector. When you do, make sure in the pic you include a small portion of the original wires coming out of them. This will make it easier to distinguish which sensor is which. Your doing good so far. Dont get discouraged, your trying something thats very difficult to master. Be happy with yourself that your trying.

#66402 I cut all the wires, labeliing each individual wire and plug as I went along.

Now I just have to find out where the sensors I dont know go and wire the thing together. I know someof them already.

That helps more than youd think. And any little bit helps really.

#66421 This is why wire tucks suck. All this trouble to hide wires. Blah.
