I think it depends. If there is a need for clearance, then it might need propping. I know a few turbo guys that need the clearance for their manifolds from hitting the hood.
I'm considering it because my catch can is open atmosphere and it smokes quite a bit of oil vapors into the engine bay. When i sit in traffic, it catches up into the interior and gets me dizzy. I am leaning to propping it to vent my hood as my catch can is near the firewall. This MIGHT help vent the gases so it doesnt go into the interior.
