ECU, Wiring, Sensors

#186665 So i'v got a odd ball question. Until I buy the correct 4 wire o2 sensor, can I cut the heater wire for my stock vx o2 sensor to make the check engine lit go off.

The answer to the question is probably no, but I figured I would ask. I am stuck at work and just wondering about it.

#186679 nada lol and from what i understand if that wire goes your car wont heat up properly well at least thats what happened in 3kk3lsia's 4dr when he had me figure out what was wrong with it...

#188733 Yea thanks guys... I tried it for giggles and it didn't change anything. The ecu isn't looking for the extra wires and when you cut it still throws same engine code.

Another question though, & I had searched for this but never any pictures or anything that I actually understood.

I need to convert the harness.... yes.... how in the hell do I do that?

I know you can pick up another ex harness and use it but what about the plugs on the side of the shock tower that go to the ecu. Do I change that too? or do I just need the harness from the o2 to the plugs on the shock tower?
:?
Also I read that you can just wire it straight up to the Ecu from the O2 sensor. But I need picturers or change by numbers or something.... my dumn a$$ light is stuck on :eh: and I haven't really figured out what I should do...or how to do it.

#188742 you'll need to get a hold of a wiring diagram and figure out which wires to de-pin and/or switch. Do you own a manual such as a Helm's?
I have a .pdf of the Civic service manual, but I don't know if this stuff is in there. I'll check.

#188820 I don't want to mess anything up for you but have you thought about connecting the heater wires together? Not sure if it will do anything, could blow a fuse or something.

I have the downloaded PDF manual for the Civic.... thanks teal.. I did see some wire schematics in it but it looks like a foreign language

Just incase somebody is wonder, I have the CEL code 41... :?

#189363 Got To share this... Pinout for OBD1 Ecu. I think by the time I'm done with this I 'm going to make this a DIY for converting 5 wire to 4 wire O2 sensor.

Got this from Here!!

#189579 I've posted links to ffsquad dozens of times. It's a great site.

There are plenty of write-ups of that already. Quite old even. I thought I did one.

The wires are different. You can't just re-use the wideband O2 harness for the 4 wire O2. You have to run new wires.

You can fake out the heater circuit by looping the heater in and the heater out with the appropriate rated resistor, but the only reason to do this is when you're installing an AEM UEGO that has the 1 volt emulator for the stock ECU.

#189589 Yea I just picked up a new O2 and working on wiring it directly to the ecu. Just need to figure out which pins to plug into on the ECU.

Thanks for the info though.
