Too many electrical issues

- Sun Mar 07, 2010 9:17 pm #179708 Last night I was driving home with the windows open, and i heard a faint buzzing sound but it went away so I didnt think anything of it. But when I got home and tried to close the windows, the switch was unresponsive and so is my radiator fan. I checked the fuses under the dash and they are fine. What could have went wrong all of a sudden?

So your car is overheating now because of the fan not coming on?

- Sun Mar 07, 2010 11:52 pm #179723 Yeah it originally came with power windows, and it is a little hotter than usual, but not overheating. It is a new radiator and fan that my mechanic friend just put in back in january. Hes gonna be away this week, and I cant get in touch with him cause my phone decided to go swimming in a puddle.

- Mon Mar 08, 2010 4:14 pm #179888 It's weird that the 2 quit working at the same time. Sure it's not just a coincidence? Try hooking a + and - from the battery to the fan and see if it turns on.

I don't know anything about the power windows, my car doesn't have them. So I can only say to check your wiring for a short.
Also check the under hood fuse box as well, maybe there's a fuse/relay in there

- Sat Mar 27, 2010 5:15 am #183969 I dont really see how they can be tied together. Totally different circuits. Relays rarely go bad but when they do they make a humm then blow. I would link the humming to a bad window relay or roll up module. Not sure which this car uses. If its a roll up module they are usually located in the drivers door. If it works you should hear a faint relay clicking in the door when your flip the switch to either open or close a window. I would suggest the bad fan to improper instillation. maybe a loose plug. Only because it has already been messed with.

- Tue Mar 30, 2010 7:02 pm #184652 Well the radio has been out, but i took it out the other day and the radio has been out a while and it randomly came on the other day but as of last night it is now unoperational. The radio turns on and says its working but i cant hear anything, tried different speakers, fuses are fine. Just random stupid shit really annoying I dont have too much time to deal with it cause of school. So I been rocking my sisters lame automatic ek coupe. Ugh

- Tue Mar 30, 2010 7:19 pm #184656 For the radio problem either a short or blown speaker could have caused the radio outputs to blow. This is usually what happens when the radio comes on and appears to be working but has no output. Since you already replaced the speakers i would check if any of the speaker wires are shorted to ground by measuring the resistance of the wire to chasis ground. Should be infinite with the radio disconnected. If no shorts are found and the speakers are still replaced then its safe to replace the radio. Chances are that a blown speaker blew out your radio and its not necessary to check if a wire is shorted but if there is a short and its not checked you run the risk of blowing another radio. On some radios(high end eclipse's for sure) you can blow the outputs if the rca touchs ground as well.

The problem is theres a tiny leak in my windshield that has water dripping dangerously close to the fuse box so i am resealing it asap. But im still having trouble with the radio being on while the car is running, the fuses are fine. I recorded a quick vid of my problem.

- Sat Apr 10, 2010 2:16 am #186737 Thats definitly a new one for me. I would say its power related. Best chance without trying another radio would be to run new switched 12v, constant 12v and a new ground just to be sure. You may have more current draw on one of the power wires when the car is running. Or if you have another radio that you could put in just to try it could very well be that.

- Sat Apr 10, 2010 2:24 am #186741 I think im gonna get a new battery tomorrow and see if that helps. The battery seems alright but its prob time to go, I hope thats my problem. I had just the radio on for 20 min while I cleaned the interior today and when i went to start it back up the batt was def almost dead. Ugh and I just saved enough money for some new tires...

- Sat Apr 10, 2010 4:08 am #186764 Honestly i was going to mention that but figured i would get a bunch of stupid coments from people because of it. Thing is, once the car is running you can disconnect the battery and your car will run completly off your alternator. So the fact that your battery voltage is low wouldn't affect it. The battery however acts like a filter as well and helps clean up your output voltage from your alternator. Sounds far fetched and probably wouldn't effect many radios but its a possibility. If the battery is weak anyway its probably a good idea to start with it especially since its the easiest solution if it works. good luck.

- Sun Apr 11, 2010 3:44 pm #186985 if it happens only when you turn up the volume its gonna be a bad speaker jvc has a protection mode where it cuts off if its getting bad frequency from the speaker.. and another tip just in case it happens on the stereo if cd gets stukk dont panic turn off the radio fully press power and eject at the same time and it will come out.. ive had alot of customers with your problem come to my shop so i pretty much knoow all the tricks

- Sun Apr 11, 2010 4:57 pm #186998 Can you clarify exactly what's happening with the radio? It looks to me like the radio plays sound with the key on engine off, but not with the engine running. In both instances it's powered up but with the engine running, it doesn't play sound. Is that right? Is it like this consistently? Do you have an amplifier in the car? Can you take a quick pic of the radio harness?
