#164219 So i was looking at ways to trim my gsr valve cover and most of the stuff i saw was on "half moon", with is pretty cool but i had a pretty good size dent and it was cracking were the pice that covered the cam gear. So i decided to cut the cover compleatly off! :woot: Heres how i did it.

TOOLS:
grinder
cut off wheel

If you wanna get really precise:
tape measure
marker
blue tape

Ok so heres what i started with just a oem gsr valve cover.

As you can see from the above pics to the far left bottom theres a nice dent that cracked all the way threw.

Basicly you can strip the paint befor or after you cut really doesent matter i chose the strip the paint off mine befor cutting heres a couple pics. I use air craft remover works awsome!

Basicly after a couple coats and a little washing and brushing you get this.

So heres wear you can be as anal as you want! lol. For thoughs of you who love to measure and make a nice clean mark and get you pice nutz on, thats entirely upto you! For me i just went for it!

so to get a good start we aculay just cut most of it out but left it longer than the final cut so we could see better to get the lat cut cleaner.

Then we cut it all the way down and used a sanding disk to clean up all the edges and it pretty much comes out like this! :thumb:

Heres one of how it looks on the motor. Im back and forth on weather or not to trim the rest of the back down or not but you guys can choose witch way you wanna go everyone has a diffrent opinion! As you can tell the valve cover need paint and to be cleaned up a little more but i think it gunna look sweet! :D

I also need to still trim the plastic part off the bottom of the cam gears aswell.

Hope you guys liked my first diy, like i said its my FIRST so dont hate on me to badly! lol.

#164281 the half circle was nice, but I would not recommend cutting the rest off on a street driven car. If you ever look in the corner of your engine bay where dirt can collect or around your battery/fuse box, you will find tiny pieces of gravel. The valve cover keeps that stuff from getting into your timing belt area. I've read more than one case where people running without an upper timing belt cover have had the belt wear out early and sometimes break. On a track car it does not matter as much though.

So what do you have in mind for painting? Or are you gonna polish 8)

#164307 I was thinking that aswell teal. But this isnt my daily so im not to worried about it.As for the valve cover painting not toaly shure yet, i may let my friend do some sick grafiti work, or may just paint it some weird color lol. I am gunna however go with purple blox cam gears! :woot:

#164822 People get away with valve covers like that all the time. I still agree its not the best way to to do it. I like just the circle cut outs that let you see the gear alone.
