#141971 hey guys,

so my handbrake light stays on even after the handbrake is down right. ive been told that my brake fluid will need replacing, and i went and had a look and it was fairly low.

theres one thing that bugs me though, ive just recently changed my brake pads (4000k's,topped brake fluid too), so why is my fluid low?

is this normal guys?
sorry im still learning!! :P

#141975 you could lose brake fluid through a rusted brake line, a leaking drum cylinder or caliper piston, or a worn out master cylinder.

I would check the master cylinder on the firewall first. Look at it on the inside of the firewall for leaking brake fluid, by where the brake pedal connects to it.

#142027 hey thanks for the suggestions!

ok yip i had a look on the firewall and there is a leak coming from the brake booster.

so i guess its the master cylinder? i have some images if you need to see it.

if it is the master, what should i do in solving this problem?

ps. what's the part number for the master cylinder for the eg? my friend happens to have a spare one from a 3g prelude... sorry if this sounds so noob :(

#142035 It is true. The light comes on with the parking brake, but if the fluid is low, it will also come on.

Check for leaks at the MC to BB, all hard to soft lines, at the Prop valve, and then at the calipurs.

You will not want to buy a MC from Honda. Way too much. You can get one from a parts store for lots less and they will work just fine. Be sure to bench bleed them before installing.

If you would like a bolt on upgrade to your stock EG MC, ask for a 91 ex sedan MC. its a 15/16th instead of a 13/16ths.

#142042 hey!

im from australia, so im unfamiliar with american models, haha!

what achievements would upgrading the MC result in though?
what are the differences in 13/16ths and 15/16ths?

thanks for the help :) !!

#142043 15/16 is a larger bore, it pushes a higer volume of fluid, i recently swaped rear disk brakes from a 95 ex civic, and the brakes didn;t work right, untill today i went to a junk yard and got a ex master/ booster, now my car brakes like it should, its been a good week for me, mc/bb and a set of 14" steelies, 35$ what a steal.

#142052 ok i have another question guys,

i have been told that my master cylinder seals are the main things that wear out, so replacing the whole thing might not be necessary, and so ive been recommended to 'repair' the MC, by grabbing myself a OEM Brake master cylinder rebuild kit from Honda.

is this a good approach?

#142071 over here in the states a new mc cost between 60-75$ or you could get one from a junkyard its all up to you, if you do just replace the seals maybe you should write up a diy for it. :thumb:
