General engine questions/issues that aren't specific to the other categories

#127169 well a buddy of mine picked up another LS after his took a shit, so we just replaced the engine. got everything hooked up, got spark (checked each plug), got fuel pump primin, the timing is set to exactly what the manual says.... and she won't fire up for nothin.

just turns over and over till the battery gets low. i'm sure it's flooded from the raw fuel on the spark plugs when you pull em but it doesent sound like its even thinkin about startin... just sounds like a dead motor being turned over, all you hear is the faint "plop" of the exhaust valves opening.

#127218 so i had him take off the valve cover to check the timing again. i was not there when he did it the first time. the oil was almost white it was so damn milky lookin. i'm almost positive the head gasket is shot.....

what i wanna know is would that cause it not to wanna start at all? even with the blown hg shouldn't it still sputter start??

#127220 if the HG is really bad, then you'll lose a lot of compression.
Fuel + Spark + Compression = car start. You have the first two, gotta be poor compression. I'd do a test, but it sounds like you already found the problem.

#127941 so he got his HG, i show up and he's got the cams n shit out and he ready to start takin out the head bolts.... went to break loose the first one and about threw the socket, it was barely hand tight! took them all out with no problem, lifted up and there wasn't even a HG! :o

the piece of shit he bought it from said the engine had never been taken apart or nothin.. said it was runnin when they pulled it out his car. the pistons/sleeves looked terribly corroded. it was obvious they just literally slapped a block n head together and made a quick buck... :thumbdown:

we cleaned up the piston's and walls put on the head gasket, put on everything else..... cranked over but no fire..

my buddy is young still and a little too trusting... met the kid in a meijer (grocery store) parking lot.. if he would've told me thats were he was meetin dude i would of told him not to get it. he didn't even pop the valve cover to check it out. guess you gotta learn somehow...

were just hopin we can possibly figure somethin out with this. :x

It happens to everyone at one time or another.

You might want to have the head checked. if everything else they gave you was junk, they may have given you a warped head too.

Probably ought to get the block checked out as well. may need a bore and/or hone. Plus who knows what kind of shape the bearings are in.

#132892 well he traded it off to a kid for a POS beat ass mustang. it a 95 5.0 with 200k, and beat to hell. i guess the kids license is suspended so he wanted a "project".

i'm gonna flag it and maybe put up a warning post. the "other" b18 he has is the original one that took a shit. my buddy traded it to him telling him that the engine in it was probably fucked. not just "out of time"

"I" didn't do shit. and yes, the mustang he traded for is garbage. he said it ran a 16.1 1/4 but it wasn't liking going into 2nd, i just laughed.
