General engine questions/issues that aren't specific to the other categories

#121915 i hope this is in the right section. i just bought this car about 3 weeks ago, so i'm trying to figure out everything about it that i can. it is a turbo b16, and it has vafc2 on it. my question is, when i'm stopped i push the clutch in and rev the motor all the way it only goes to about 4500 rpms and acts like it has a two-step or some kind of launch control.it runs and drives fine, it only does this stopped. is this a function of the vafc or is it something else because on the p28 ecu it has a phearable.net sticker and an ungodly amount of wiring splices. i looked on phearable.net and they mostly tune w/ crome or hondata. how can i tell if my car is running crome also, or if it was only tuned on the vafc. thanks. chris :D

#121958 if you open up the ecu and in the lower left corner there is a chip, then its been chipped, If there's just open solder points in the lower left corner then its not been chipped.

If You have a chipped ecu there is no good reason to use a VAFC as well. If there has been something else done to the engine, i.e. Boost, Came, etc then get it retuned by a local tuner.

And I believe the VAFC2 will give options for launch control, as is possible with a chipped ecu.

#122033 VAFC is a hack usually used on stock ecu's. It is very outdated by today's technologies.
I'd consider selling it and repairing your harness and going with a reliable chipped ecu (hondata, aem) if you have the money. Or even ectune , neptune, chrome if you're on a budget.
You'll have a much more reliable and safe setup :thumb:

#122257 thanks for the feedback guys. yeah that was my plan when i get some money together, i was just wondering if that launch control was a function of the vafc or if it was chipped. now i know what to look for in the ecu. much appreciation to both of you.
