#110982 yeah we had to replace the steering column two times after the hatch got stolen twice. It's not really that hard but it costs a lot to get the lock assembly and to buy a new steering colum. You can go to a junk yard and probably find a lock assembly but then you gotta get the key for the car it was in.

#111247 When breaking the key mechanism like yours is, thieves also usually mess up the keyway on the steering column. I was able to hammer mine back into shape for now but I think I'm going to replace it during my build.

You can keep your current ignition key cylinder. Here is how...

Get a new steering column with an unbroken ignition setup. use a dremel or cutoff wheel to make a slot in the top of the breakoff bolts that hold the ignition onto the column. remove those bolts and the ignition setup. You can then remove the key cylinder from that unit and put in the original one from your broken unit. Then all you need is two new breakoff bolts from the dealer and you can put everything back together.

Also be careful with the white ribbon cable on the bottom side of the steering column. It tears easily.

#111294 ^^O really??...U answered my next question. What the hell is that white ribbon thing cuz its ripped and now the ca wont start again, does that ribbon thing have something to do with it?

#117693 same thing happened to my hatch, you got lucky it came back with just a broke igition, mine came back wit that and a dent under the gas cap... but back on topic - could the white ribbon cable be for the airbag?
By mage182
#117722 That white ribbon cable is to the clock spring. It controls an SRS signal, turn signals, cruise control. Maybe something else too. If the ribbon is ripped you'll probably have to get a new one. More info can be found here with a pic:

You can probably find one on ebay for cheap.
