When breaking the key mechanism like yours is, thieves also usually mess up the keyway on the steering column. I was able to hammer mine back into shape for now but I think I'm going to replace it during my build.
You can keep your current ignition key cylinder. Here is how...
Get a new steering column with an unbroken ignition setup. use a dremel or cutoff wheel to make a slot in the top of the breakoff bolts that hold the ignition onto the column. remove those bolts and the ignition setup. You can then remove the key cylinder from that unit and put in the original one from your broken unit. Then all you need is two new breakoff bolts from the dealer and you can put everything back together.
Also be careful with the white ribbon cable on the bottom side of the steering column. It tears easily.
