Hi all. I am a newbie to the eg world. Anyone please feel free to correct me or steer me in the right direction at anytime. I just recently acquired my first eg. I have always loved the eg since the days they were new, and I have recently had the fortune of acquiring one at a great price. Now I am ready to build...
I have spent quite a bit of time reading in forums (a lot on this site) trying to get as much information as possible about where to start, how to start, how to build, etc. My first thought was that I wanted to start at the core of everything- the engine. So I have been doing research on different engines that people swap into an eg. The most popular seems to be the H22 and the B18. Apparently the H22 is great for spray and the B18 for boost. I personally think I am leaning towards the B18, simply because it seems to be a very straight forward and easy swap to complete. Plus it is a very interchangeable engine that you can get a fairly large amount of hp out of and you also get to keep your ac. My question here though is what exactly is the difference between the B18c1 and the B18c5. I have heard and seen both being referred to as the Type-R. Can someone please clarify for me why the c1 can sometime be referred to as GSR and sometimes Type-R?
My next question is that is it absolutely true that if you have the c5 that it is better to run it N/A (which I am assuming non aspirated means no turbo)? Or is the B18c1 a better buy for the money and just boost it?
I have also considered trying to find a K20A2, but apparently everyone thinks that they are still over priced, and I am a big fan of saving money, but I am willing to if it means building the car right. Although I dont want to drop 7k on a K20 that might have 15-25 hp more than what I can get out of a B18. What can I gain by K20 that cant be pulled out of a B18?
My current budget is around 5k - 6k preferably. I will be taking my time over the next 7-8 months doing this and building my eg the right way. But I desperately want some sense of direction on where to take it. This car will eventually be my weekend fun toy. Not a strictly track or drag. But I want it to be fast as hell. I will be acquiring parts and pieces over the next 7-8months and going in and tearing down to the shell, painting and rebuilding from the ground up with what I start to buy now. So far I have skunk2 coil overs and G-racing Kyoto wheels on Falken Ziex rubber. Also swapped the seized d15b7 for a JDM D15b from Japan (for now
). Thanks for any replies.
