#78899 Yo,
I just wanted to see what you guys on here think about the 2 lil "big" sohc motors.I have done extensive research as well as speaking with some experts, and they say the JDMD15B is a strong motor considering its displacement. I am aware that the JDM D1515B has 130ps(hp) where as the d16z6 or ZC motor has around 126 or so and give or take -2/+2 on the torque difference.
I am also considering efficiency as well as decent performance and potential (boost, high compression setups with various block/head combinations) all in mind with the economy takin a major slump and taking advantage of low gas prices (as long as we can get them at a good decent price).

Above is a poll, after your vote, post your thoughts on positives and negatives about each engine or any to your experience and knowledge.'

Thanks

#78919 Id say the Z6 as well its good with low amounts of boost stock, has a good aftermarket support, parts are easy to find and you dont have to special order anything really since the Z6 came in US ex and si's
unlike the ZC where parts are hard to find unless you know what your doing and got a list of stuff that will work. and the D16a i know unless you do work on the one motor mount it will not bolt up to our civics let alone the ef's

And finally why not the D15B its a good motor dont get me wrong and parts are readibly available for it but I think for what you want from the motor you are gonna want a Z6 over the D15B since the Z6 fits all your criteria

Exactly, it all depends if you find a motor that is clean, and well taken care of. I can easily go to an importer and ask him for an engine, but im not really too sure about the condition of the engine, or even if its from japan at all. For all I know it can be from Cambodia, Thailand, or any other asian countries which is equipped with that engine in their cars.

I would be pleased with a z6, but I just like the D15B for their price, and power per litre, 130 hp??

#79002 well idk if you read this 2 month edition of project car but they talk about looking at motors and such what you need to know before you buy it and since you can go to said importers id buy a copy of that magazine since i think itd be a good idea if you are going to get a motor like that.......and yea im sure there are ways of telling if it is a true jdm motor or not probaly if anything the timing belt cover if its in japanese probaly its from japan but yea idk really just guessing....

#79258 The JDM D15B and SOHC VTEC ZC are both CA smog legal. All you have to do is mount your purge valve to the intake manifold and T in a vacuum line, OR swap on a Z6 intake manifold.

The D15B has the best r/s ratio. It's a rev happy motor.

The JDM cams have more duration than their USDM counterparts: http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2431505 Other than that the heads are identical.

JDM motors are low mileage and generally haven't been whooped on and neglected like USDM motors.

I think many people here don't know what engines you're talking about. When you say D15B they're thinking of the USDM non VTEC engines and when you say ZC they think you're talking about the DOHC D series engine.
