I you choose one of the D Series SOHC (Single Over Head Cam) Civics and then diside to change to the B Series DOHC (Double Over Head Cam) engine you will have alot of additional parts you will need to change such as

Subrame (Stronger with ARB(Anti Roll Bar))
Wheel Hubs
Breaks
Drive Shafts
and also wiring if you choose a non vtec civic to start.

You Don't need ANY of those except the wiring.

all your stock components will work with a B-Series engine, it does for me!

Essex is that far really! Suppose we can meet up at Bluewater meets or something, or if you cruise down to Basildon/Southend? Not been there much though!

The only thing is I was wanting to get DOHC rather than Single. Although I've heard people say good things about the D16z6 which is SOHC but I wanted something with a bit more power and DOHC so I can remap it so it can kick in earlier etc.

Unless there are reasons why SOHC may be better that I haven't come across?

SOHC is better for passing smog, getting good MPG, saving weight, and cutting down engine cost$ ex: building, tunning, parts, are all cheaper for sohc

yep true, you wont see barley any love from mugen and toda for SOHC
