#38383 I am so happy that Washington doesn't use Salt here. I have no rust at all on my EJ1 at all. Atleast If there is, I have not found any.

#38388 With no experience or expertise at all, what's the best way to remove large(er) rust areas?

I assume using sandpaper by hand is the fool's way of going about it, I think I have some run-of-the-mill portable sanders, or at least dremel tools...

I really would prefer to not pay someone to do the work for me. If anyone knows of a good rust-removal DIY on here or another forum, or has some general tips and hints, could they post them please and tank ya? :thumb:

#38392 Best way is to cut it all out and weld new metal in. Easiest is going to be to pay someone else to do it lol.

My passenger door had a huge spot under the paint. The shop sanded it all down and used "inhibitor" then primered and painted the door.

Large amounts suck.

#38394 Me + Welding = impossible lol.

Going out and buying welding equipment and teaching myself how to doesn't seem like the economical or logical way of doing it haha.

I guess I'll have to save up some money, but I know a retired guy who did auto body work for 25 years and I'm sure he'd give me a decent rate, I think he told me $25/hour plus materials, so meh.

*sigh*.

I'll get some pics of the EJ1 up soon so everyone can ooh and ahh at the rust, but I'm lovin' the upgrade from the EG8.

#38462 guys/gals I'm a member on an autobody forum and someone post this:

this is the original post:

if this product is for real I think we found a solution for our rust buckets. altho it looks like it only works on surface rust and not on rust holes, but anyway is good if it really works. Any of you heard about this before?

#38556 rust is like a virus to metal. once you get some it gets worse if not treated. no chemical formular in a bottle can actually stop rust. the only way to really get rid of rust is to cut it completely out. if you sand down and use these rust treatment stuff which you can buy, it's only temp, like a few years max, the long term effect it will still spread.

It costed me quite a bit of money but I went with oem parts for the front end and I saved quite a bit by doing the bodywork with one of my friend.
