Bi-xenon HIDs

- Thu Jan 10, 2013 6:09 pm #323707 I know HIDs in a reflector housing is a big no-no, but I just read on a Tacoma forum that Bi-xenons can be used in their headlights without any trouble. Now, I'm not sure if they have projectors or reflectors, but one of them has said that they have not had any problems with their bi-xenon. So I'm wondering if I can use a bi-xenon kit without having to get projectors or just save myself the time, effort and money and stick with halogens.

Remember civic headlight housings are different from Tacoma's and would not get the same effect.

I had Bi-xenons in my car for a couple of months and its my daily. I recently took them out cuz they don't provide enough light. They stayed in high beam in order to provide a better view (I didn't like that and I'm sure other people didn't). They light was also aimed right if your wondering.

If you want HIDS I would suggest a retrofit kit. Some member have done them and are satisfied with it.

And I kind of don't want to do a retrofit on an oem housing because it looks slightly odd to me. I might consider doing a retrofit on denji housings though, depending on how ambitious I'm feeling.

- Fri Jan 11, 2013 12:36 am #323795 OEM as in OEM from 92-95? Retrofits perform poorly in those headlights only because of the router glass. Clear glass headlights work best. I picked some jdm style clears up from eBay for 75 bucks. I agree that they can look a little goofy, it all depends on what kind of shield is used really. I am gonna try to make a fiberglass surround that encapsulates the projector. Kinda how the denjis are buy with only 1 projector. Keep in mind that doing a retro on denji will limit your projector choice.

Retro fit questions would probably be answered better over there.
I do believe the tsx and s2k projectors will bolt right up. But any projector will work. It all depends on your skill level and how hard you want to work.

i just put hids in my blackhousing headlights, and the light just seems scattered around and does not light up at all

- Sat Jan 12, 2013 2:36 am #323906 If you have a diffused/fluted lens that's why. The OEM housings are designed to scatter the halogen lightbulb output. A projector focuses the light.
