do you think 12.5:1cp is too much for a daily driver?

#220681 So a couple friends and I were having a debate recently about whether or not a high compression vehicle could be used as a every day driver. Some said yes why not but others were real adamant about it not being a good idea. One person reasoned that a friend of his had a high cp B16b that only lasted around 5k miles simply because it wasn't meant to be a daily driver. Another person argued that he had been told by reputable tuners that it wasn't a gOod idea. So wat do u guys think? Is this true and will it kill my quest for a high comp daily driver? :?

#220737 Maybe go a little bit lower then 12.5:1, just search peoples builds and see how long they lasted

#220739 Properly tuned, it will last a good while. But you have to spend a good deal of money on a quality ECU program (Hondata is the best out there for Hondas), and take it to a known reliable tuner to have it tuned to a mild degree. Don't let him tune the ECU to meet a specific dyno goal. Steetable is the key. 12.5:1 is streetable.

#220755 What ur opinion of a good while? S300, I'd have it no other way. But I do want @ least 200whp out of this build and I would love if it could last @ least 50k miles. Like seriously who would want it to break. I have been doing research but not a lot of persons seem to worry about it. Maybe because they don't dd

#220757 A good while meaning it depends on the way you drive, how often you tromp on it, the tuner's definition of a good tune, driving conditions, quality of parts, blah, blah, blah... I expect my mild NA LS build to last at least 50k miles. But I'm only doing 11:1, and mild cams. To hit 200whp, you'll need a menagerie of good parts and a hella good tune. It's totally possible, and has been done plenty of times. But it ain't cheap.

#220763 I'm not cheaping out. I'm doing mild cams as well, supertech valvetrain, ported head, build gsr block with a ls crank, manley rods and cp pistons. Just a summary of things I'm getting. Driving down to jersey to get tuned by YOSOLO. If you haven't heard of him get familiar! He got multiple all motor B's and K's running 10's to low 12's. Look him up

#220764 AEM Engine Management is far more superior than the Hondata S300..

#220767 Too bad AEM is far too expensive...otherwise I'd be all over that shit.

#220786 Well the guy said he wasn't cheaping out on his build so if that the case the AEM is the way to go. Also my friend ran on 14:1+ comp. daily as well. So I agree that its all in the tune.

#220807 I have no problem getting the AEM EMS but as for right now thats a little bit out of my budget seeing that i hadnt even considered it from the jump. Im already getting a gr8 deal on the S300 so im just going to go with that. Its all in the tune like ppl say and i really appreciate the feedback ive been getting. Thanx guys. :woot:

So 12.5cp is nuttn then right? ChicagoMike where did u get ur car tuned?

#220830 I mean 12.5:1 is still pretty high but its not out of the question.

He got about 10-12 mpg, cruising. When he got on it he got about 6 mpg lol.

#220864 my brother in law had a high compression integra. Ls high compression 13.2 to 1. Thing had some freakin balls thats for damn sure, it was fast. BUT... not worth it. Gotta upgrade a lot man. Fuel pump, lines, fuel rail, injectors, gotta get a tune...etc. If it is properly built and a good tune it should last a decent amount for a DD. But you will be spending a bunch on gas.
