If you have anything other than a 92-95 Civic, post it in here

#200906 Well I finally found one. They aren't too rare but finding a decent one is hard.

I picked it up a couple days ago and have been working on stripping out the interior to clean it and working on cleaning the engine bay. After that, going to drop the tranny and see what is making noise :( .

Mazda RX7 1988 SE

The majority of you guys on here all have other Hondas but I decided to try something different :) .

I will be putting it back to factory as much as possible so I can sell it and pick up a 1989-1991 model S5 because I think they look a little better. I'll probably be posting pics of the cleaning and part swapping just in case it helps any one.

#201045 lol thanks, luckily it hasn't flooded on me but I've only started it like 6 times so far. For someone only 6'1" it fits like a glove (don't wear gloves but I imagine the fit would be well :D ) . Just enough room to fit comfortably and still have room to stretch my legs. Plus its always fun to tell my friends that it is a little 1.3 litre :).

Yesterday I took out the passenger seat and some more trim pieces, hopefully getting a hold of a guy in town to replace the cracked ones. As for the transmission, nothing done so far, waiting on money to buy a clutch kit.

One more thing, CRUISE CONTROL! :thumb: Possibly the best invention ever to be placed into a car. The 5 hour drive back home was a breeze with it. Idk if I can ever go back to taking road trips with the civic and having to hold my foot on the pedal the whole time.

#203314 LOTS OF NEW PICS!!
The day was nice so I decided to work on the car.

Bought new spark plugs for it, they're cool looking. They don't have to be gapped so it saved me time when looking through the haynes manual. Also bought new plug wires and belts. Found out that the air conditioning still worked!

Image
Have the intake manifold off to get to even more electrical lines and vacuum hoses that Mazda ran underneath it. Also there are two more fuel injectors underneath it just because.

Image
A pic from the front of the engine.

Image
The interior looks like crap but its a work in progress. A lot of the plastic is cracked slightly so I've been looking for replacement pieces. Also, the previous owner decided to run new speaker wire to everywhere but was mentally challenged so it looks like crap and there are many splices in lots of wires.

Image
Up on jack stands prior to pulling the engine. Had to unbolt more and more just to get some little things off.

Image
Engine is pulled and there is now oil everywhere. Took a little while to do it because there is soo much random lines running to the parts.

Image
It looks so empty :( V8 maybe? lol

Image
Going for the opposite look. You guys have your cars so low that you're afraid of speed bumps, mine is so high atm that I could easily go off-roading in it. (no motor in it atm)

Image

3 hours of scrubbing and lots of elbow grease, the black transmission now shows some of its natural shine :D Going to make it soo much easier to put back in.

Image

Had to get the flywheel off so we got a huge 2 1/8 socket. About the size of a honda piston. lol

Several more hours went by and this

turned into this

The shiniest part on the whole car is the aluminum motor mount. :)

That is all for this weekend. Going to be getting the flywheel resurfaced and have to buy random gaskets and lots of rubber pieces and poly-urethane mounts. Small stuff is going to get sandblasted and painted either black or red, vac lines and gas lines are getting replaced. Going to look nice and clean just like the honda did when I finished up the engine swap on it.

#204974 Well the civic is still chilling out, it is running great so other than cosmetic and saving for a v6, all my time is going towards this car.

Got some goodies in the mail today.
An intake gasket and a large oil pan gasket. Get to finally pull more parts off and sandblast them and paint them.

This key looks and feels so much cooler than the picture shows. Very unique and hopefully will never get scratched up or dropped. :D

#210520 FCs and the FDs are probably the only cars that i like as much as civics.

When i get rid of the civic It'll be for an rx7 i reckon.

Yours looks really clean, and that key is oh-so amazing. How much'd you pay for it?

Nice. The key was $20 shipped from Mazdatrix. Expensive for a key but it looks so awesome.

Also small update- the beast has it's heart back in. Replaced tons of vac lines and sensors so hopefully it runs well. New clutch, gaskets, and motor mounts should make it more stable and less noisy when shifting. Next couple days are plug and play days so it should be up and running be weeks end.
