#188084 I have a 92 vx with a jdm d15b. I just recently put an ex tranny on it and also lowered it on some skunk2 struts and coilovers at the same time. As soon as I took it out for a test drive when I was done it started making a clunk noise every time I hit a bump that wasn't there before. So I pulled it in the shop today and shook everything and the only sound I can find is when I hit the axles....I don't remember any of my other cars ever doing this, when I did the tranny swap I used the axles out of my A000 tranny but i'm like 98% sure that all d series MT axles are interchangeable. The axles only had about 500 miles on them. Tonight I also noticed another noise when I let out the clutch to take off in a hurry(not to burn out or anything like that) it makes a noise that to me sounds like the teeth on the axle and the teeth in the tranny have gaps between them...its kind of a pop noise, but not like the teeth are slipping.

thanks in advance and sorry for the long post

#188086 I'm guessing the A000 is the VX tranny? should be totally compatible/same just really looooong gears.. the axles "clicked" all the way in for sure??

did you lower the car a lot?
By juju
#188087 yeah the A000 was the vx tranny, I lowered it probably like 2.5 inches.

I'm pretty sure they are in all the way, I'll double check tomorrow...I tugged on them a little today and they didn't move

#188089 Exhaust maybe hitting the LCA.
By juju
#188146 just checked the exhaust, thats not it. do you guys think that these axles could already be bad? It seems like the majority of the noise is from the drivers side. maybe just the drivers side axle is bad....This thing has me stumped

#188157 it is possible the axles are bad... were they remans or new? what brand?
By juju
#188158 They were new from oreilly not remans... I can't remember the brand though

#188160 honestly its possible, id pull em out and see how the cv joints feel, at least then you can rule it out either way :thumb: maybe double check your front end bolts and axle nuts too?

#188163 I've never heard of axles making a clunk when they go bad.

At 2.5 inches your upper control arms hit the strut towers. You'll start to notice the dents.

If not that then probably the exhaust or loose suspension component. Could also be a bad engine mount. You can't tell if they're bad until you pull them out. But if they're the original mounts, then I can tell you right now both front lower mounts are completely shot and the rear engine mount is ripped and pretty much useless. As well as your rear main bushings... but that's something else.

Do you have an aftermarket sway bar?
