80's cars you grew up with that are extinct :(

- Sat Apr 09, 2016 7:46 pm #358851 The "Will EG's ever become collectible" thread got me thinking back to the mid 90's when I was in high school and all the 80's cars that my friends and I used to beat on and learn how to wrench (half-assed) on.

There were a lot of cool 80's cars/trucks that were very affordable in the 90's and were usually first cars/beaters. I feel bad about abusing some of them now, since they seem to be extinct.

Post pics of some of the 80's cars you grew up with that are now extinct, or super rare to see in person. Here's a few from my youth:

1988 Ford Escort GT A friend had one of these and it was a blast to drive. I haven't seen one of these in person in 15+ years.

Cavalier Z24 Hatchback A friend had one in HS, I've never seen another one since. Always thought they were cool.

1988 Beretta GT / GTU These were everywhere. Pic is a GTU with factory body kit and nicer wheels. I had an 88 GT v6 5-speed for a couple of years, sold it when I got my first Honda, an 88 Prelude. (And where did all the 3rd gen Preludes go?)

and I'm a guy who likes 80s-90s Chevrolets lol

My mom had a 1992(iirc) Chevy Lumina 3.4L Euro sedan. Pretty different seeing how just about everybody had the Z34 2 door version. I spent a few years riding in it with my mom before I got my license. Drove it a bit when she would go out of town. It was sooo much nicer than the 88 Mazda 323 POS I had at the time lol. The Lumina had a 3.4 DOHC V6 it was like 200ish hp. thing would SCOOT. like door to door with a GTP Grand Prix kinda scoot lol ask me how I know :P

It finally gave up around 216.000 miles

I drove a 94 GTP with the 3.4 dohc one summer and dealerships never had parts in stock. 200 hp is right, but I don't doubt they underrated because I beat an auto 5.0 fox body mustang in it. That 3.4 Lumina was a sleeper for sure! I also had a 1991 3.1 Euro Lumina, but those weren't anything special- even had a bench front seat lol so euro.
