#351293 Friday after work I tore it down and had the new chain and tensioner installed in an hour and a half. I wouldn't have stopped, but I ran out of daylight lol. Buttoned it all up today and all is good to go once again!

For reference sake, I used all OEM parts.

14401-PNA-004 K20 chain.

14510-R40-A01 '09+ K24 tensioner

Yes you do.

The builder of the engine that's in it wants us to race them. We kinda sorta did today. We somehow found each other again in town on my way home. he got up next to me and i heard him downshift. So i down shifted to third and we both punched it. I was pulling on him pretty bad lol. Atleast it seemed like i was. I turned my attention to the fast approaching truck ahead of me after i couldn't see him out of the corner of my eye lol.

#351362 Have you adjusted valve lash recently?
I just did that on my TSX k24a2 for the 100k mi service the other night and the engine feels better than when I bought the car with 45k mi.
I always thought the ivtec was soft on these K motors. Now I can actually feel it start @ 6k. The motor sounded plain like blah before and now it sings and sounds beautiful from about 3k to redline.
I've done valve lash on plenty of D series and never noticed such a huge improvement... guess K's love to get valvelash adjusted. 8)

I did before I dropped it in. Then once again when I had to do the head gasket after dropping it in. I also checked it Saturday after doing the timing chain and tensioner.

Yeah, proper valve lash is pretty crucial lol. I always thought that my b18c1 was insanely loud when it crossed over to vtec. Until I did this swap lol.

I seriously need to get kpro and get it tuned. If there is a noticeable difference when it crosses over to vtec, you're losing power. It should be a seamless cross over. A good tune(r) can make this happen! And this k20a2 is like you turn the after burners on when it crosses over. Defiantly noticeable! it's kind of cool, but not proper.

Speaking of the head gasket job I did: The motor didn't feel as strong as it did when i first drove it, before doing the head gasket. like something was holding it back. Now, after doing the timing chain and tensioner, it is a BEAST once again. I believe the chain was so loose that it was causing the car to lose power due to cam timing issues, but not throw any timing codes. I seriously got lucky the chain didn't skip, or the tensioner completely fail. The strange thing about it though was it seemed fine when I put it back together. Apparently not lol.

All is good once again though. i can't even imagine what it's going to feel like after I get kpro and tuned!

#351385 Just thought I'd post one of the drawbacks to a k swap in an ej and you refuse to raise it. I haven't had an issue yet though. But I cringe at every speed bump, dip, hole and driveway I come across lol.

Oil pan to ground clearance. Or, the lack of.......

#351829 That oil pan is getting close to the ground. My H22 swap was similar and it does make you cringe every time you hear a scrape under the front end.

teal_dx that actually looks like the aluminum one that beatrush makes for our cars. Its not the strongest material for a skid plate but its some piece of mind when you hit small stuff you know you arent tearing your oil pan open.

BTW, I think your coupe is ROTM worthy 8)

I did some research back when I was in the middle of the swap and there was a company that was going to make them. They actually did make some, but there was no interest so they scrapped it. All I have seen too are homemade ones.

I wonder though if a large skid plate would effect the cooling. You would think that air over the oil pan would play some roll in the cooling of the engine. I guess one could drill holes or direct some air to the pan some how.

BTW, I think your last sentence was the highlight of my day! Thanks!

I have thought about submitting it, and I probably will, when I get some better pics. I have been planning on going to a park down the road from me and having a photoshoot. but i probably won't do it until it gets warmer so i can take the daughter there to play as well.

Thanks again man!

I hear the h22 swaps are bad too. One guy was telling me it is worse than a k swap, but I wouldn't know to be honest.

The big problem with the k series in these cars is the pan hangs out in front of the front tires. It's a speed bump nightmare. The pan will hit the bump before your tires do to "lift" it out of harms way. My worry is it's an aluminum pan. It's not going to dent lol.

#352290 Just thought I'd share my one and only "run" with this car since doing the swap.

It was a couple of weeks ago and it's kind of comical IMO. Everybody was trying to get me to run this Honda and that Honda. Nope, I want a piece of that Neon SRT4! Done.

I was sleeping at the line. Rolled into it, up in smoke. then I missed 2nd lol. Found it, up in smoke. Finally got traction, shifted to third and it was ON! But too late lol. I was reeling him in on the big end and to my surprise, despite all the issues i had in the first 60', he only got me by 1 car.

I was pleasantly impressed. I need some sticky tires, a traction bar, kpro and tuned and it will be a different story.

The neon driver: "I could defiantly tell the difference between half throttle and full throttle from my mirror. That thing sounds really good too!"
