Turbo and Supercharger discussion

#35427 Hello all, I'm new to this site and posting my first....well post I guess. First let me give you my history with Honda's, I've owned a 89 CRX (DOHC ZC) a 91 hatch (B16a) I had both swaps done myself. I've always wanted an EG well now I'm going to buy one. I'm in the Navy right now on deployment and when I get back I will have roughly 8k to spend on one, I would like to buy a stock EG and have the swap done myself. Now for my goal and your help, I want to get 300whp out of it. I dont really care how its done but for the money I think I'm going to have to boost it which I have no problem doing. Car will be a daily driver. I live in SOCAL so if you know any good shops within 200 miles of here let me know. Im looking for ideas on engine/turbo setups. Be specific as you can and links would be great. Thanks in advance for your input!

#35432 Cali is strict about swaps and mods, especially turbo. I don't know all the details, maybe a Cali member can fill you in. But I do know that instead of piecing together your own turbo kit, you will probably have to buy a kit that is 50 state legal, which usually means spend more $$ for less power.

with $8k though, 300HP should be no problem 8)

#35433 Yeah I know what you mean, Cali sucks when it comes to mods. A friend of mine is in the SRT ring and him and all his friends are selling their turbos and replacing them with stock turbos. But thankfully I'll be moving back to Kentucky (where there are hardly any rules at all) and being how I'm in the military and Kentucky is where I pay my state taxes I still have the option of regestering my car in my home state.

#35437 well if your thinking about moving to kentuky, you could just prolly buy the dohc engine and once you move piece your turbo. turbo kits are good but they take away the fun of piecing one together. $8k should be more than enough to reach your goal and then some. good luck :thumb:

#35548 Yeah I'm a big fan of the b18, a good friend of mine has a gsr he has boosted and got great results out of it. Love the high rpm and vtec, only downside I see to that is the price of GSR's are jumping as of latley, but I have 8k so I should be able to do it. By the way for thoes reading 8k includes the price i want to spend on the car, I'll be looking for one with high miles or engine/tranny problems, but I really want somthing with a clean body and interior. Back to the GSR, anyone have any recomendations for a good turbo setup? Thanks again. Oh I found this website for a swap shop in SD I don't have the time or knowledge to do a swap myself, let me know what you guys think of the prices. http://www.labjunkies.com/swaps.htm

#35613 you can always go LS turbo. you might not meet your 300whp but it sure will meet your 8grand limit.

figure a hatch will cost you 3-4grand for a clean one..2grand for the LS swap, and that gives you around 3grand for a turbo kit setup and other accessories to get you to that magically 300whp.

i would reccomend this kit. Not smog legal though but one of the best kits out there.

#35652 Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the link. I think I'm deffinatly giong to go with a b18 block. I have also thought about the LS, lots of torque I'm not a big fan of the LS/VTEC (seems like it's just too hard to get it right) but your right with a good turbo the LS should be close. I also found a head/cam kit from a company called Bullfrog it looks like a pretty sweet setup and they claim they add around 50hp. The turbo kit you posted, doesn't look like it includes injectors, anyone have any suggestions on that? Thanks again and keep em commin!
