#349724 Couple engine shots

Here's the home-made mount I replaced. I didn't realize it until I got it off, but it was damned near about to split in half! Never trust mounts someone else made!!

It also lifted the engine a little bit, but it still hangs down. Looking at it again, I think it's just the brand of header, because there's an inch or so gap between the header and the oil pan.

Twin horns! The OEM horn was unresponsive, so I removed it and mounted those in the bay using the original harness.

And yes, they are as loud as they look.

#350690 I'm getting really tired of not being able to drive this thing anywhere without scraping. It's not even fun to drive, because I worry too much about what damage I'm causing.

So:

Operation rally-style is commencing... Next mods to this car are being lifted and will probably look for a way to custom weld a light-bar and skid plate on the front.

#350874 Pretty bad when I can run my sedan over bumps with no issues at all, but the hatch hits anything jutting out of the road.

That got me thinking, since the sedan has factory spec shocks and EX springs and it rides how I want the hatch to perform, that I'm just gonna rip the shock/spring assemblies off of a 92-00 civic from the junkyard and swap them over to the hatch. It would at least make it driveable on these Louisiana roads.

I think the shocks on the hatch may be trash, but I believe the springs are Tein's. They'll be up for sale after I take them off.

#350885 I like the route you're going... so many slammed cars that aren't functional. I don't know why more people don't build something they can drive like they stole. I'm going to put my car back up a little bit as well because I'm tired of rubbing & scraping.

#353329 Swapped over the headers this week to a DC-Sport two-piece and welded a new flange to match everything up on the exhaust. Now I've got all my ground clearance back!!

But we discovered a new setback. The reason the engine is canted back slightly is because the complete and total idiot previous owner WELDED the rear mount to the frame because his custom front and tranny mounts wouldn't line up. Seriously, there is a rubber insert mount WELDED to the frame... Thankfully the welds aren't anywhere near the original holes, so the original threads are safe. I'll have to pull the motor out entirely to be able to cut the mount off in order to install new mounts.

At least they are safe and secure enough that the car is now driveable.

Now I gotta pull the carpet out because the entire drivers side floor is soaking wet. Suspecting the windshield seal, because it's not coming from the door, it's coming from the foot well.

#353332 Got more accomplished today. Removed the carpets entirely and checked for the leak. It was coming from where the wiring harness firewall gaskets were cut to accommodate extra wiring. Half a tube of RTV silicon later and no more leaks, but the carpet is trash, so i'm running without it for a while.

All that's left mechanically is to un-engineer the mount and do them right and this hatch can begin to look the part again.

#353420 Do black seat covers and new floor mats count as a modification?

#353430 make sure you check the threads for that year mount closely. it might be welded in place because the PO stripped the bolt holes out trying to get it to line up. or maybe they were stripped out and he thought his only choice was to make a new mount and weld it

I've actually inspected the threads, and thankfully the ones I could reach were all still intact.

The guy made the front and tranny mounts first and mounted it up, then welded the rear mount into place where it sat. Should point out that the front and tranny mounts are fabrications, where the rear mount is a factory style.

Why he did that, I have no idea... but it's a salvageable situation.

And since this is a secondary toy, I'll get a new subframe if push comes to shove.

#353716 Every time I drive this car, I fall more and more in love with it.

#353718 Yep. I'm head over heals for mine. I find myself taking the long way home every time. Lol.

#355515 So now that we're done with 100+ degree heat, I'm gonna start working more on my cars again. I removed the rear seats and seat belts, and cleaned up some wiring, and will turn the whole back into a cargo hold of sorts. I've got some woodland camo netting that'll be here soon for the hold.

Also, my computer science senior design project for my graduation semester (finally!) is to create an OBD-I digital dashboard over the next few months. The plan is hardwiring the tach, TP, and a few other sensors into a harness, and plugging in an embedded system to work on a separate 7 inch screen.

Also might be adding the other woodland camo paint colors after it starts to cool off a little more.

#355628 Camo mesh netting, oversized rubber trunk mat, and 400 watt power inverter installed. Now it's feeling more useful.
