Resonator vs. Muffler?

Resonator vs. Muffler?

instead of a resonator:

I'm not sure why resonators are twice as expensive as a muffler. :?

The above would be used in the straight section of my mid-pipe, there will still be a muffler in the stock location as well.
Any thoughts?
