How can I clean my blower motor?

- Mon Jun 28, 2010 8:53 am #202338 Hi! For quite some time, I am pretty sure my blower motor and all the pipings are full of sh*t. I want to clean all those.

My car has an A/C system, and the evaporator is mounted on the blower motor. If I remove the blower motor, will I discharge the refrigerant? I wanted to do this simple task, of cleaning the blower motor, outside by myself, because it is a simple thing to do, but now I am afraid I will have to discharge it first.

Am I right? Or there is a way to leave the evaporator and remove only the blower motor? :)

- Tue Jun 29, 2010 6:06 pm #202470 It isn't mounted on the blower motor. The blower motor is in the corner and it's connected to the box that houses the evaporator. Don't disconnect the AC lines. Just pull the blower motor, clean it out, then vacuum out the opening next to the evaporator. Blow some compressed air through it. You only have to clean the side facing the blower motor. The other side doesn't get dirty.

- Wed Jul 07, 2010 2:18 pm #203512 Ok, done, I took the blower motor off. :) Now, there were some leaves in it, but not too much. I will cleane it carefully, although I wanted to soak the fan itself in water, but there seem to be no way of getting it off of the motor. :(

Now, the questions is - can I get to the evaporator, and still not to discharge the gas? There are leaves stuck there too, I am sure, so I have to clean the evaporator too. :) Any ideas?

- Wed Jul 07, 2010 4:21 pm #203521 You can't take it out w/out disconnecting the AC lines so just do like I said and get the vacuum hose in there along with some compressed air to dislodge any sediments.
