#16367 so my headlights have the usual cloud stuff on them and they look all foggy and shyt so i decide to fix that and while i had the headlights out i decided to paint them.
Image
this is how they were b4.....this one wasnt too bad compared to the other side the other one was probably worse. anyways i started off with 1500 grit sand paper. while sanding make sure ur headlights and sandpaper are wet at all time if not the sand paper will scratch the lens. so i wetsanded them for about 20 min with the 1500 grit sand paper. then after that i wetsanded them again with 2000 grit sandpaper for about 20 min. after that i used some stuff called Plastic X its just like a plastic polisher but it does work pretty good. i just used a strip of cloth and polished it for a bout 10 min. after all that this is how they came out when i was done polishing them
Image
then after i did that i took out the housing and painted it black

then the next day my friend at autozone gave me this color which he thought was the closetst to the typr r headlights so i had nothing to do so i painted them again with graphite grey

#16374 Looks good man. I did the exact same thing with the headlights on my 96 hx, one side was already coming apart on it's own. I didn't even need to bake it in the oven!

It's nice being an EG and having real glass headlights 8)

I'm dieing to find the JDM headlights, they're plastic!! Less weight over the front wheels.

To the OP.....
Good job, good write up. I've done like 4 sets of EK lights the same way, and actually considered doing the ones on the EG.

#16865 Here's some pics of my headlights on my 96 hx. When I got the car, the seal that held the lens off was 1/2 worn away so there was dirt, leaves, bugs inside the passenger light. After seeing how clear yours are, I need to give mine another polish :thumb:

I tinted my amber reflectors while I had the lights apart. Some people remove the reflectors all together which is technicially illegal. A cop could pull you over if he wanted to be a dick.

I used Duplicolor Metalcast Smoke http://duplicolor.com/products/metalcast.html
on mine to get the CTR look. But when I was wiping the pasenger side chrome clean with wax & grease remover before painting, some of the chrome rubbed right off lol. Enough that it showed through the translucent Smoke paint. So I had to end up putting a bunch of coats on to cover up the blemish. By the time I was done, they were much darker than the CTR lights from all the layers of paint.

hey my hx looks pretty good in this pic!

ok there it looks crappy as normal

PS. I'm going to move this thread to the Exterior & Body area. (Even though it's an EK, you still did a nice writeup :thumb: )

#16884 ahaha yeah they do look good, that color is very similar to mine. i really like how u tinted the amber strip, kinda looks like smoked amber. it looks very good.....do you have any plans for that HX or are you gonna leave it stock?

#16899 I'm gonna swap the CVT tranny out for a 5 speed. The CVT has been slipping since I bought the car. The HX is just a winter beater/daily driver. I only drive it in winter now, but when I move next year, I'm going to drive it daily on my 45 min drive to work. 40+ MPG FTW :thumb:
Now I live 12 min from work so I drive the EG or Stang 8)
