My Freshly Painted Rims!!!

My Wheels have been looking bad for a while. Thats gets hidden to a degree when a photo is taken. I finally decided I will work on my Rims on my next day off. I bought 2 colors of Paint, Metallic Silver, and Metallic Dark Grey/Black. I also bought alot of Masking tape and Clear Coat for $27 USD.

Once done the Rims look beautiful. I am totally 100% Satisfied with how they came out. Its just awesome. Well what do you guys thing?

Depends on how corroded/ damaged your wheels are

- Tue Feb 05, 2008 2:38 pm #40966 My wheels are basically just scratched, the red lip has some paint chips and there's just a little curb rash.

I think I'll just use some paint stripper, then sand with a few low grits and move my way up until I remove most of the scratches from the sandpaper, similar to as if I was going to polish them, but I assume I wouldn't have to go QUITE as far with the fine sandpaper because I'm going to be painting over them?

- Tue Feb 05, 2008 3:34 pm #40973 You need to sand enough to get rid of any marks on the wheels, but you dont want the surface to be too smooth at that stage otherwise the primer might not stick to the alloy, but equally you dont want but gouges out your wheel :lol:

1 can of the lightest color, 1 of the darkest. the Darkest can is now empty after all 4 rims :lol:

I sanding most of to corroded areas down smooth. then used a medium grit piece of sandpaper and got all the areas of the Rim I could so the paint would have somewhere to stick.

When I was done I put 2 layers of Generic Automotive Clearcoat on the Rims. Hopefully helping to protect the new paint from the elements.

It is an 15"x8" Rim Meaning 15" Tall, 8" Wide Should have explained that better. Made by Quantem Tek. They are Made in Korea. Manufactured in 2000. At least thats what the Wheel Casting says.

I have been looking to get anouther set of 15"x8" Rims but have not had any luck.

195/50R15
They stretch just a little, but nothing major or noticeable. :lol:

Did you use it or not? :thumb: I have my rims off and cleaned, so I'm hoping to get to the paint in the next few days!
