I have bought Drag DR-44 new 2 years ago and last year I bought brand new MRR FF5's that look similar to works meisters CR-01's but they were 700 bucks shipped for the wheels instead of 2k shipped. as far as track time goes, there are SEVERAL race/drift companies that run rota's nowadays. I truly believe that some companies make 3 piece wheels simply because they expect the barrels to get tore all to shit so you just simply remove the center of the wheel and put a new barrel on. that's pretty cool but i'm sure the barrel costs more than a lesser brands whole wheel.

i'll some day buy some awesome wheels but I just don't understand why people hate on other dudes rides because they don't have 20k invested in it especially if its a 1500 dollar car like our civics. I currently have about 5-6k invested in mine..i'll be over 10k within the next year or so...I guess I cant say much after all but wheels just aren't a place I want to spend 2-4k on right now. once Honda tuning contacts me and asks about a spread in their magazine i'll man up and put some nice goodies on the car LOL jk.

- Wed Dec 11, 2013 2:20 pm #339906 I was asking about the bbs caps on knockoffs cause I was considering a set of LM replicas for the tsx but the caps on the reps don't look that good. BBS cap is just a mush better looking cap. 8)

- Wed Dec 11, 2013 5:12 pm #339914 eh he isn't wasting his money. its his money and his car so whatever he likes is fine. what is not fine is if anyone bashes another persons ride for lack of quality parts. I like "real" wheels and cars that have them but I probably wont ever own a set unless they are given to me.


secondly I just cant get myself to pay like 600-800 for a set of used "real" wheels that need completely refinishing..i can spend that much and have nice wheels ready to go.

- Wed Dec 11, 2013 5:33 pm #339917 The cheapest made wheels are gravity cast while good quality wheels are low pressure cast. Even better wheels are high pressure cast. The pressure helps to prevent impurities which can weaken the casting and create a more dense casting.

Then you have forged & billet which are really expensive.

Many would consider them fakes because they make wheels styled similar to others. My apologies :thumb:

I consider them as real as the next. Just not as strong as forged.

- Wed Dec 11, 2013 6:17 pm #339924 Konig has original designs but they also make some copies. I consider Konig "Real"... they even have some light weight wheels.

Rota was the first knockoff company to make it big. I don't know if they have ever made any designs of their own. Now you have Drag and XXR etc making knockoffs of Rota's knockoffs. People bash Rota for copying others' designs, but Rota builds a good wheel (as does Drag, XXR,etc.)

There's a few track failures that made rounds on the internet, but they are isolated incidents and a lot of wheels (original or knockoff) can fail when pushed to those limits.

- Wed Dec 11, 2013 6:22 pm #339925 I chose Volk Racing for my future wheels because they use light alloys eventhough they are forged and not the cheapest ($500 a wheel).
Afterall, I want to get my car to be the lightest without getting rid of the luxuries.

BBS also use light alloys and were chose by Mine's for their GTRs for that reason.
