#249499 ive searched the net about it so far and all i see is if the prep is done right any temp that a car will produce wont affect the paint unless the car is on fire, but i wonder if anyone here has used it before? ill try it in a few weeks time on my steelies so we'll see then

#249506 how long did you wait for the paint to cure on your wheels before fitting tyres? or how long should i wait?

#249507 it was about a month but the paint still chipped off in some areas around the edges cause i painted them with the tire still on so wasent the best of bonding around the edges. (was a moment of madness going purple lol)

#249511 ahh ok cool, well ive currently got a stellie prepped, just gotta get the hammerite and try it out, the lip will be fine as the steelies are tyre-less, will pdate once sprayed and left to cure, Robbys89 do you have a pic of your wheels btw?

#249513 the paint should hold better at the edges with the tire off i also did mine by spray gun so the paint was thick compared to the likes of a rattle can job.

heres two pics... when the paint at the edges chipped away i decided to polish the entire edge to save painting over and ruining the rest of the finish on the wheels.

#249517 thats super cool man, especially with the polished lip, im gonna be going the rattle can route as i cant put hammerite into the spray gun, and itll cost me R115.00 a can thats like 10 UK pounds or something, think ill be using a can per wheel to get it as thick as possible but do as many light coats as possible

#249520 iv done other wheels in the past and only needed 2 cans half a can per wheel.... at least of the base coat anyway, wouldent hurt to use a thick layer of clear to protect maybe can per wheel then save yourself some money from getting 4 basecoats.

or you can just buy say half a liter of clear coat for the spray gun and use the gun on them so you can wetsand after for a real smooth finish while only needing 2 cans of your base colour and 2 cans of primer.. (self etching primer if the wheels are fully stripped of paint)

#249526 the thing with hammerite is that you dont need to apply primer and you dont need to apply a clear coat on

#249603 Im about to paint my entire car in this
Maybe thats not a good idea but im down for anything

Edit: I did some research and found that offroaders use hammerite on their rigs just because its tough as hell and can take a beating

#249613 hey if yous didnt know already.. playing cards are really good for masking the rim from the tyre, just simply stick the card between the rim and tyre and overlap as you go around the rims.. it should look sorta like a football stadium, works good :) :)
