#72114 Ok just like the title states ive got a rear wheel whine. Mostly comes from passenger side but also from driver side. Best way to describe it is it sounds like a tire/ground whine. Like if one of those big lifted trucks passes you by with HUGE mudding tires. Its like a constant whine while im moving that, as you go faster it gets LOUDER and slower, lower. One of my freinds says its my bearings but hes never actually heard it. please excuse this idiots crappy video but you can kinda hear what im talking about. Exactally the same sound! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHzYMjB3Y5k
Ill try to get my own video with sound right now.
Help! :x

#72116 Yeah i didn't watch the video but sounds lie wheel bearings, if you have rear drums then just replace the hub assembly, cost me about $120 for one side when i had my hatch, but it did exactly what you're describing.

#72121 I dunno if the rear disks have hub's like the drum brakes or if they have bearings similar to the front wheels. i've never had to replace a rear disk bearing before... someone with rear disks may be able to enlighten further.

Video three has the best sound of it. you can definatly tell the difference between exhaust and tire noise. I tryed to coast in neutral on the 2nd and 3rd so you can tell. What scares me the most is when i turn left and it dissapears. :? Anyone?

#72167 take a look at your rear tires for any unusual tire wear. I thought my rear bearings were going bad in my 96 civic, but it turns out it was just the tires wearing unusually. I rotated the tires and the noise went to the front.

I replaced a rear bearing in my 92 hatch. It was worn and did not hum, but would make a small knocking noise when going over bumps. if I grabbed the wheel like you would a steering wheel and shook it from side to side, there was a tiny bit of play in the wheel.

#72473 My best advice is for you to talk with your mechanic and give im your Civic, to a small ride around the block!
If it is your bearing please beware that it may block your wheel AT ANY TIME, and is very DANGEROUS for you and your passengers!

#72528 another update, checked both back tires or unusual wear but there was none. Both tires looked worn equally in every way. Still havent found someone with a low profile jack. :x

#74429 k. got a low profile jack for free. jacked my car up to find out whats going on and found the springs werent even on track, and were cut from top to bottom  :x :( . Changed the tires/rims and the sounds still there. :x i read http://www.civic-eg.com/viewtopic.php?t=4129 and saw my rear brake conversion is the same. i believe. will take pics when i go back out there and take the rims off again. im guessing i need to change the bearings in the back now but i found out that you need to replace the entire hub assembly with the bearing?!? :x 340 for a set?!?! WTF?!? can anyone shed some light on this? i think i know why i got this car so cheap.
