#32183 I noticed that there was a noticable howling soud coming from the rear of my 96 hx that got louder with speed. I thought it may be a wheel bearing going bad. But When I went to rotate the tires, I found this:

Every other tread block has excessive wear. Both rear tires had this on the inside tread blocks. The car was driven into a dusty garage floor. you can see that every other tread is worn more and is still clean because it did not contact the dusty floor.
The tires have been used for maybe 8k miles on my 96 hx. The car has stock suspension. The wheels/tires were used on my EG for a while before this with no problem at all.
Now they are on the front of the car (ek) and the howling is coming from the front.

The tires are Pirelli all season directional (good tires) and are properly balanced.

what could cause this strange tire wear? I;ve never seen anything like it before :?

#32184 that is by far the weirdest tread wear i have ever seen. maybe it was a flaw in the tire and has just now decided to come out?

#32192 the car rides pretty soft, almost feels like the way a hoopty 'floats'.
but I thought it felt so soft because I was used to my lowered hatch with energy bushings.

check your shocks..if they are blown, the wheel hops around when driving causing the bump wear..

#32238 I would try getting the tires remounted, maybe get them mounted so that the worn part i on the outside, and see if it happens still...

that makes sense, but its uncanny how the wheel would be able to hop exactly on that one tread block if that was really the case wouldn't it?

#32315 blown shocks for sure, my dad's accord had the same problem a couple of months back. the guy on the shop that fix it said that all four shock were shot. Atleast the tires had the same pattern. also were does tires off of a car before you put them on? Rubber dries with time and that could be a reason here in Puerto Rico if we want to store tires we have to prepare them by putting some tire dressing because the rubber tends to dry with the humidity and all.
Maybe a combination of the two, blown shocks/tires :?

Now that its worn like that, wont it just get worse? If it was me id get new tyres...
