- Fri Apr 08, 2011 9:17 pm #249190 So I constantly hear that for a front wheel drive car it is better to have no or stock front sway bar, and to only upgrade the rear.

But I also know that having a front sway bar would still be benefitial.
I have a daily driver hatch, and I would like a decent setup for autoX
Just would like an oppinion or explination on this topic
Any suggestions or comments

- Sat Apr 09, 2011 2:22 am #249250 last season i ran a couple of autoxs with a 22mm rear and no front, i ran into a bad tire rubbing issues , the grip was still good though, i perfer running a front sway bar but its up to you , how the car feels, suspension setup, etc..

i actually was about 3 seconds quicker but i made ALOT! of changes,
This season i may experement.

- Sun Apr 10, 2011 12:35 am #249389 My buddy w/ a front sway bar and no rear on his EF says he regrets getting the front and wish he got only a rear. But I wouldn't know cause I haven't run sway bars on my EG (yet)

I was wondering the same thing, though. I plan on a rear sway bar for the summer and no front, but to get the front eventually. Hmm.

- Sun Apr 10, 2011 2:29 am #249406 It all depends on your driving style. I ran a few events with no front sway bar and a 15 mm rear, and holy shit was that thing tail happy. My back end was chasing me all over the place.

Getting rid of the front bar will help the car rotate and allow you to kick that back end around a bit faster. I put mine back on because I personally prefer a more neutral handling car. I have a new suspension going on soon so we'll see what that does to everything. With 12k front springs I may have to try pulling the front bar off again and seeing what happens.

front JDM DC2-R
rear Ultra Racing 19mm.

my daily route to work has some pretty tight corners.

that setup handled alright... though the front felt like it could just lose traction at any time and the rear felt like its floating...

changed the 19mm for a JDM DC2-R 23mm and now the car handles just how i want it. front and rear feels very grippy. even the soft sidewalls on the 195/55/15 Toyo T1R im using isnt as apparent as previous setup. made a world of difference to me.

if it matters... i also have DC2-R front tower strut and ASR brace with Blox LCA. also with TEIN Flex coilovers with stiffness setting is roughly at 18 front and 15 rear. no rear struts.

Wow, I'm very impressed. With this setup, I'd expect understeer due to so much tightening of the front but not as much in the rear. At least my buddy who only has a rear sway/strut says he gets more understeer.

How do you describe floaty?

rubber bushings are pretty mushy after almost 20 years.

Im focusing on my suspension right now because im going to be entering some autox events this summer
Id like to plan out a good suspension setup
This is why I brought it up to you guys
Just wanted some good advice

How do you describe floaty?

hard to actually say... not sure how to describe and "floating" is the best way i can think of...

its feels like the rear just just isnt planted to the ground the way i want it and body roll feels ridiculous....

with the front and rear JDM DC2-R sways.. everything feels firmly planted to the ground and bodyroll is significantly reduced.

Interesting. Could it be the thickness? Or the bushings?

I'm so curious about this, cause I plan on getting a rear sway bar, a 17mm Eibach for the Summer. Any opinions on this?

- Tue Apr 12, 2011 1:07 pm #249945 im guessing its the thickness... coz the bushings werent exactly new..they were the same ones that left the honda factory....actually wanted to change the bushings during install....but there were none available at the time.

17mm? dont really know... i wasnt happy with my 19mm so that should give u a hint...

want sway bar u running up front?

guess itll come down to the entire setup itself... it even took me about a month just to set the stiffness of my Tein Flex to wat im comfortable with in corners and for daily driven use.
