#162118 Recently, Ive been having a problem once every so often where when turning the key, starter doesnt want to work. The battery is brand new, fully charged and starter doesnt get stuck . Can it be the starter relay? if there is one? im not sure exactly where it is but if someone can point that out... maybe i can try replacing that

#162123 does everything turn on? radio, lights everything? and if so, when you turn it and turn it to the point where you should hear it starting do you get the turnover going or is it silent or a click?

#162124 it is completely silent, no clicks at all

#162137 Let's see, it's been a little while since i've had one apart...
There's 4 contact points around the starter, 90° from each other. Eventually the contacts wear down, but sometimes one will wear more which can leave a 'dead spot' in the starter when the starter is in a certain position.
Starters are rebuildable by just replacing these contacts, but it's easier to buy a used starter off CL for $20.
I had a spare auto starter and a dying manual starter (auto and manual are different) so I swapped those contacts between the two.

BUT if it is not clicking, then it may be a different problem. I would check & clean all the terminals on the battery and the grounds on the engine, tranny/chassis.

#162303 okay, going to try cleaning electrical grounds and connections on the starter... hopefully this goes well. thanks again

#162322 i had the same problem id get nothing everything would turn on and then all of a sudden 2 days later it wouldnt start no matter how many times i turned the key it ended up being a bad starter so i replaced with one ihad lying around and thats that really finished it up good.....

so yea id just suggest getinga used starter off craigslist any d series should work and if all else fail i would say 92-95 civics only just to be on the safe side but yea auto and manual are different.....

if you have another car id quickly pop off your starter and take it to either dvance auto or autozone they test the stuff for free.....

#162471 So far, i tested my original starter outside of car with battery and terminals.... i then tried another one that tested working also... came to a conclusion its probably the ignition harness.... does anyone have any idea where i can start to check if this is it before going out and wasting money ~100$ on ebay

#162514 have you tried to start the starter directly?? you can do it by connecting a wire from the positive battery post and tapping it to the conector going to the starter.. it could just be the switch behind your clutch pedal is going out or falling out of place...

#162542 When i apply 12volt to the little plug on starter with key on "running" i guess, motor starts up. Im going to go over my alarm wiring on to the ignition harness... permanent problem right now.... last resort is just to wire up a button...

#162543 Oh you have an alarm... check the kill switch if you put it it might just be the starter cable got disconnected.. Or like I said might be the clutch pedal switch behind it
