#64370 I have a 1992 civic Vx. Most of the exhaust looks like it has a heat shield. And every once and a while...the heat shield just vibrates and makes a loud rattling sound.... I know the heat shield is there for a reason... but is there a way I could just get rid of the noise? ( Is it safe to just remove the whole heat sheild off of the exhaust?) Sorry for the lame question... Thanks :thumb:

#64374 I wouldnt remove it, try and find out what part is making the noise - it might just need a bolt tightened up or something like that

#64381 you may have to tack weld it in the loose place

#64384 personally when the head shield started to rattle like your explaining on my car i got under there with clamps and clamped it together and it seemed to work for a while then it statred to do it again, but after a while it was my exhaust itself that broke off at the end of the cat. i brought it to my mechanic and asked him if the noise was related to the exhaust breaking and he said yes its a very good chance, i replaced the exhaust with an aftermarket cat back exhaust and left the heat shield off and no problems whatsoever so i would check to see how the exhaust itself is looking too.

#64478 I will check for the bolts... but I have seen most of them... they look pretty tight..... dam... I could wait just a little longer until I put my d16 in.... the noise sounds like its coming from the heat sheild around the exhaust manifold at the bottom.... Thanks for the info guys.... I think in the end I will result by getin a cat back exhaust haha...

#64481 Yes, ive had my car about a year and a half now, never had the heat shield on with the single cam engine,

i swapped in my b20 w/no heat shield and its never caused any problems,

you'll be fine. trust me.

#64542 If it's the one on the Cat Just get 2 big hose clamps and clamp it tight, no more rattle.
