I got this http://www.jdmenginedepot.com/jdm_engin ... D15B_Civic

and im getting a p28 ecu
and all i have to do is wire the vtec. Is that all i have to have to get it running?

Should be as far as I can think :thumb:

I went from a VX tranny to a DX tranny with my D15B and you wouldn't believe the difference it made I woulda loved to find an EX or an Si but I got a deal on this with a brand new clutch.I've heard some people say they wouldnt use any tranny other than a DX on a D15B. Anything is better than a VX lol

#173217 yup as far as trannys go the si/ex is awesome thats what on my jdmd15b currently with an oem clutch the thing rips
wiring vtec is a piece of cake or you could put it ona toggle like me
:thumb:
let us know when u get it you should start a build thread in the your ride section :thumb:
im stoked somone is keeping the sohc alive

quite so. save the sohc!

#173223 the z6 rods and pistons will work on this bottom end ??? even z6 hbeams anyone ? rod size same on crank ??
User avatar
By eg84dr
#173262 im not 100% sure on the hbeams cause i havnt tried it but i know the z6 rods are the same so yes in theory they will work
i am going to be building a high cr d15b jdm with z6 rods and pistons
i will let you know how it works
i will also take pics of the z6 rods and d15b rods side by side once i tear into my d15b :thumb:

#173286 just want to point out a couple of things:
p28 ecu requires a 4 wire ecu

you cannot use d16 pistons in a d15b vtec.
the p08 piston has an abnormally low compression height for d-series motors. you can use vitaras, though.
the lack of pistons available for this motor makes it a poor choice for rebuilding, other than the vitara builds.
my d15b's have the same t/b tensionor as my z6's

I also have long ass gears on my D15B, no idea what tranny though, gotta find a better tranny....

with the VX pulling out was a task in itself. and you had to rev it way up so that it wouldnt lug in the next gear :x... 5th gear was pretty much useless at speeds slower than 60 and any little hill meant downshifting sometimes to 3rd. you know you got long gears when you can take 2nd gear to 85mph and still have more rpms to go

whats a four wire ecu?
you mean oxegen sensor?
im almost 100% sure you can use z6 pistons in this block
i will be trying this soon so ill let you know
why do u say you cant? too high or low compresion?

sorry, i meant o2 sensor. actually it's determined by the harness you use. btw, i recommend using a z6 harness.

d16 pistons on a d16 rod are too tall for a d15 block. that is why honda made a special piston just for the d15b rod/crank/block combination.
comp height for p08(d15b) piston is 27mm, p28(z6) is 30mm.
3mm doesn't seem like much, but it's catastrophic in an interference motor.
when i get time, maybe tomorrow, i will measure how low the p08 piston sits in a d15b, but i know already it is way less than 3mm.
none of my suppliers can get p08 pistons 'because they are jdm'

also, some d15b vtec solenoids do not have an oil pressure sensor.
a p28 requires one.(the green connector on the solenoid)
here is a solenoid off one of my d15b's without oil pres sw.:

#173330 hmm well either way my d15b is out and im going to rebuild it
and i also have a jdm d15b but i have a pressure switch
thats weird
kinda confuseed on that

#173361 d-mon is corect that the only piston that will work in this bottom end is the p08 pistons or possibly the gx pistons PMS
not sure on the gx but they should
i wonder why this got de-stickyed?
User avatar

#173362 most have the pressure switch, some don't.
if you want to use a stock p28, you need the pressure switch.

i have had gx/pms pistons on back order for over 2 years.
i don't think i'll ever see them.
