B16, B18, B20

#73169 I just got my first eg hatch and have researched alot about all the possible engine swaps for it. I have narrowed it down to either a B-series or K-series engine, but being the K-series takes alot of pocket change, I figure I need to decide on which B-series to buy for a swap. From what I see the B18C is generally more expensive and delivers alot of power especially the type R. the B16a si seems to have a respectable amount of power and is fairly cheaper, but being new to this and having no experience with the H-badge I thought I would ask for opinions. Please feel free to speak your mind :D

#73174 i would go with the b20/vtec... alot of horsepower and torque and you can peice the motor together for not too much. way cheaper than a K swap

That swap is not a good swap for a first timer. Never attempt a B20/VTEC build unless you know what you are doing. Other wise its just a complete waste of time and money.

The B16a and B18c1 swaps are both good swaps and relatively cheap. THe B18c5 or Type R swap is more expensive, but you do get better perk from the motor. You can always go with the B18b1 swap too, which is the NON vtec LS motor. I personally have a B18b1 swap in one of my cars. I also have a GSR(B18c1) that Im building for the other.

I would however suggest the B18c1 swap over both for the sheer fact, that it does have more power and torque stock than the B16a and it is cheaper than the B18c5/R. Its also pretty easy to mod the B18c1 to beat the c5 motor.

I am new at this...so what makes the B20/VTECH swap so difficult compared to other swaps???

& which motor do you like better for your cars? the b18c or the b18b

#73409 The swap itself is just like any other B series swap. The difficult part comes in the making the B20/VTEC. Its a hybrid motor using a non vtec block and a vtec head. Lots of things you need to pay close attention to and get good parts or it will just blow up and not run as well as you had hoped.
