#212258 I wouldn't waste the money on a Type R...period.

For the amount you pay, you could buy a b16, gsr or b20v, and put out more power than you will with the b18c.

If you're looking for the cheapest route right now, i'd go with an LS or b20, and later down the road, put on a b16 or gsr head, and you'll be much happier with the final result.

You know thats a good Idea...I was thinking Ls or b20...Only reason I was think Type R motor is I wanted a easy 200hp...Two start out with and then build on that...How hard is it two get about 300 hp out of a Ls or b20?

The 200hp is at the fly wheel. You won't be putting down that much to the wheels. I'm not sure of the power loss, but for a b16, rated at 170hp, with some decent mods, you'll actually put down 140-150. Mine currently is at 157.

You could put down on a fully built motor for a b20v, maybe around 240, but you'll spend some serious money doing that.

I think I'm just going to go with the Ls motor...So your B16 is rated @ 170 and puts down 157...b18c1 is rated @ 180 would So for sake of discussion lets just say the gsr motor only puts down 167hp....what do you think it would take me to put down 167 with a Ls vtec?

Oh and thanks for you help this is a good discussion... :thumb:

#212371 But my b16 isn't completely stock. When i first swapped the b16, i had no header, intake, or exhaust...bone stock.. put down maybe 128whp i think. Don't forget the 170hp... so 170 turned into 128 due to the stock parts on the car. In a sense, the motor was choking for air.

After header, intake, and exhaust, it was somewhere around 145... now from here it got harder to raise.

I got the car tuned, swapped in a set of gsr cams, and upgraded my intake to a jdm password intake, and i'm now at 157whp.

Depending on the condition of the motor you get, you could get higher with a gsr. I bought my motor from HMO as well, about 2 years ago.

If you did an lsv build, you could get better #s, and better trq than i can.

good buy though :)

Thanks homie...yea nothing wrong with d-series just not for me...I learned how to drive a manual on my brothers 2004 si with a K20 in it so I'm use to way more power...thats why the dseries just doesnt make the cut...But to each his own...But Im still thinking Ls vtec or if I can find a pretty good priced gsr motor I'll get that but we will see...What ever the choice its going to be done pretty quick...

#216015 If you drop a much more powerfull engine in and use it you're going to need extra stopping power, so before you buy wheels you could go with a 5 stud/big brake swap. Subframe reinforcement with ITR roll bars and strut braces would be a usefull addition also. It's a logical step up to bring the rest of the car up to scratch if you go with a B18/similar I'd say.

Nice car :)
