Started Work Wed, Pulled the Engine out.

After that we set the Engine down and started taking things I needed off it off and put them on my z6. When we got to putting on the flywheel we noticed it was to easy to put the bolts on, no matter how hard we turned the engine it wouldn't go. Thinking the engine might have had moisture get it in the cylinders and rust we took the head off and found nice clean cylinder walls and pistons,

So the block got flipped over and we took the pan off, The pan was held on by some sort of glue, Deffinetly not OEM, Once we got in and took the oil pump scoop out and the bottom brace, we saw engine builder greese everywhere, so we loosened the rod caps, looked at everything and retighted them to spec. Cylinders 1,2,and 4 all have the right bearing and are at spec torque atm. However cylinder 3 has the wrong bearings. Atleast I found out why the engine was seized.

Being upset and not wanting to work on the z6 for time being we took the head off the old d15b7, See why she stopped running so good.

There is a big chunk missing in the valve, That would explain the 0 compression in cylinder 4.

Cylinder walls look really shiney, There is no scoring on them at all, no signs of any ring troubles.

I am tempted to just throw my z6 head onto the b7 block and make a minime and drive the car, however I want a z6, I have yet to make my mind on what gets put together. I will probally fix the bearing in the z6, That will most likely be a more reliable engine.

The rod bearings for cylinder #3 are the wrong size, which is why the engine was seized when I picked it up.

I will be measuring what I need and getting bearings soon, I will be rebuilding the z6.I dont want to just cop out and put together a Minime, They are functional, However the z6 was built to run upto 7500rpms, the d15b7 bottom end wasn't. The D16z6 will be a much more reliable Daily driver engine that will give me good vtec pulls when i feel the need.

I am going tomarrow to get plastic gauge and finding out what bearings to get. Then pick them up so I can have my car hopefully running Sunday, I have a Honda meet I need to get the car to. :lol:

I will end up doing something with the d15b7 engine, Probably fixing the valve or putting a y7 head onto it and have it as a back up engine incase I need it. This will wait until after the z6 is in my Sedan running me back and forth to work.

#131631 Just a little update. I am going to use the z6 block that came out of my purple z6 Coupe. I got rodknock and built a mini-me for it.

Rod #4 had the knock. All bearings are Greens, I will be buying new Bearings for all 4 cylinders from Honda Monday, I hope to have everything I need to put a engine back together Wed, Which is my next day off. Then hopefully wed have my engine/tranny put together and ready to drop into the Sedan.

4x4 status up front, No engine/tranny, no weight.
I put the suspension back together and held up the axles,shift linkage with wire and pushed it outside so my uncle can use his shop for a few days.

Current plans are to have the car running before 8/2. I will have it running on a p72, until i get can get it chipped/tuned, which wont be done until after 8/5

More pics/updates coming wed assuming i get my bearings by then.

I am actually rebuilding the z6 out of my old Purple Coupe. I Wish I bought the JDM D15b right now. Actually I was felling that when I found of the z6 I bought was seized.

I hope to be ready 8/2, I should be able to make it down there. I am getting my bearings Tomorrow from Honda, Need to pick up a Headgasket, I will pick one up from CRAP locally. That should be all I need to put the engine together, I will have to Wire in VTEC, however that most likely wont be done before I have it put all back together.

I do need a p28 ECU, Be it I pick one up later or trade my p72 for it I need one. If I dont get one by the middle of next month I will chip/basemap my p72 ECU to a p28, Kinda Ironic as most people chip there p28's to run GSR's, not the other way around.

If there is anything else I can think of that I need for the swap I will let you know.

I am Tempted to put in Forged/Shotpeined rods since the engine is completely torn apart. I don't want to wait for them in order to do so.However now would be the time to do it. I would be doing it if it wasn't for the fact I need the car running GOOD by 8/2. I had my old z6 running pretty good on a p72 so I should be able to get this one running well enough to last for a few weeks

When I come back home from working on my car most of Wednesday I will have pics and updates to follow up in here.

Future Plans after the swap, besides putting the coupe bumper and tint are swapping in A/C and Cruise Control. If anyone has any A/C Swaps(don't care if its the 92-93 r12 or the 94-95 r134a) or Cruise Control parts they don't need/want pm me pricing.

#132061 yeah if you want some piece of mind you should put some forged internals in there but the timeline is going to be pretty shitty :thumbdown: i'm sure you can find a p28 on craigs somewhere if you can't get the p72 working properly.

i know you have a lotta work to do but if worst comes to it, you still have an EK to drive :D

i pulled out my A/C when i put my engine back in....it's R-134a

Pretty much where I am at now. I have the head on, Pistons/Bearings in, etc.

Not much left to do to finish the engine, Just have to put on my new Water pump, Timing belt, and a few misc things, I should have the engine in my car come my next chance I get to work on it.

I have tons more pics, I will post those up later.
