#335094 Well, what can i say...

My new precious; Almost bone stock EJ2

When i bought it, it had:

- D15B7
- Koni Yellow damping adjustable suspension
- Stock front swaybar
- Some Anzio alloy wheels
- OEM-electric sunroof
- OEM-electric adjustable headlights
- OEM-electric adjustable mirrors
- OEM Central Locking

Strange things:

- Poorly installed damping mats.
- EG Sedan mirrors, wires cut off? Mirror fitment is horrible due the 4D mirror bases.
- Drivers side window wasnt in the rails, there was some shitty fixing job that has caused the window mechanism to stuck and bending the "scissors".
- Basic wiring work.

Current progress (list updated 11.9.2013):

- OEM EG/EJ Parking Pole (BNIB) /Bought & Installed
- OEM Optional 2DIN Audio Console (BNIB) /Bought
- OEM JDM Optional 1 DIN Bronze door pocket /Bought & Installed
- OEM Power Folding Heated Side mirrors /Bought, Modded to LHD & Installed
- OEM Civic 92-95 NH-1 floor mats (BNIB) / Bought, Protected & Installed
- OEM Drivers side power door lock upgrade /Bought & Installed
- OEM Cruise Control retrofit /Currently installing the parts
- OEM Auto Climate Control retrofit /Currently installing the parts
- OEM JDM Low Fuel light retrofit /Wiring Ready, Fuel Sender missing
- OEM JDM Door open indicator retrofit
- OEM 93-95 Coupe third brake light /Bought & Refurbished & Installed
- OEM Civic 92-00 Hood Insulator /Bought used, (BNIB already ordered)
- OEM ABS retrofit /Main & Secondary harness /Bought & Installed
- OEM Gathers Optional door tweeters /Bought & Installed
-
-
-
- Reserved for more...

There is some rust, but there isnt any previous owners fixes, so the body is good base to start :)

My fiancee was driving the car home:

My feelings about that were pretty much like this:

#335095 Original switches had too many presses for my liking so...:

Image

Image

Image

And the switches changed. OEM Fog switch has some yellowish sunburn tint on it, so i need to hunt a better one. The center switch blank will be filled with OEM TCS-switch, that i will be using to control the aftermarket ECU:s Traction Control System that i dream to own someday along with the new engine :)

Image

Image

Then i checked out the malfunctioning window:

Image

Carefull look at the inside:

Image

And the mechanism looked like this:

Image

Image

I disassembled the whole thing and carefully cleaned every part. Then i put some lithium multi purpose grease to the mechanism.

Image

This was the problem:

Image

I straightened up the scissors, took the OEM-balljointed replacement roll from my EG8:s old manual windows and welded that to this mechanism. It camed out perfect :)

Then i dropped of the shitty bitum sound deadening mats and aftermarket central locking motor.

Image

Picture taken from the 4D mirror fitment to 2D doors. Horrible fitment. I ditched the Sedan mirrors and ordered OEM Power Folding mirrors.

#335098 There was something in my mind. I thought that there was something missing in those window mechanism:

Image

The "helper spring" was missing. It helps the motor when lifting the window up. My EG4 and EG8 had those springs, but this EJ2 hadn´t. Strange.

I took the springs out from my EG8:s old manual window mechanisms:

Image

And what a result! Windows work PERFECT. They are so quiet and fast.

Couple additional pics from those Sedan mirrors on 2D:

Image

Image

Image

I cleaned inside of the doors, lots of debris in there:

Image

Cleaned the interior:

(Little sad about those aftermarket tweeter holes) :(

Image

Image

Image

EK front seats, they will be gone in no time... :D

#335100 Imported from Germany:

Image

Image

Image

Somebody has rolled the fenders </3:

Image

Then i started to remove the interior:

Image

Right rear inner fender:

Image

Left is intact.

Removed the sunroof:

Image

Image

I disassembled the sunroof with help from the Service Manual. There was a problem with it and it got stuck all the time.

Well, there was a lots and lots of dirt and dry grease. "Moonroof Inner Cables" where destroyed from halfway because sunroof was forced to open.

Image

I sat down and watched couple episodes of MacGyver and came up with a pretty nice fix.

So, the sunroof model is "Outer Slide Type". Same sunroof is used in EG Hatchbacks. The destroyed parts are marked with red arrows:

Image

Next post tells how to fix it properly.

So, those wires go from the sunroof motor to the sunroof sliders. Because there is some distance, the other half from the cables is area where the motor gear never touches. I thought why not to swap the cable around?

Here is both ends of the wire:

Image

First I removed the other end in a workbench:

Image

Next i sanded and cleaned the wire end. Then i used the welding primer, heated it and cleaned it. It came out shiny, so its good to go:

Image

Next i thought that how do i reliable extend the cable. I found two blue (14-16 AWG) Duraseal heated wire extenders:

Image

...Which i removed the outer cover and tapped the inner part to the wire end. Tight fitment:

Image

Next i sawed of the other ends part, that goes to the slider:

Image

Which now will be the new motors side end:

Image

Next i removed the plastic slider end part, so it doesnt melt when i heat up the wire:

Image

Image

Then the same thing as before; Sanding, cleaning, primer, heat, cleaning:

Image

Then i finished the wire end and tapped it to the duraseal. There is i hole in center of the duraseal. I heated up the duraseal and melted a wire lead inside of it. Right amount of wire lead is when it starts to leak in both ends of the duraseal and the air bubbles stop coming from the center hole.

Then i let it to cool down and tested it by pulling it very hard in the workbench. It works:

Image

Same thing to the other wire and thats it :)

Random pics:

Cleaned and fixed side:

Image

One time clean with brake clean. Still very dirty. There was a ice cream stick in the mechanism:

Image

Image

Here is a quick video after fixing the roof. It isnt adjusted in the picture, and the spoiler setup is off from the OEM-line. Closed-spoiler-open-closed:

Thanks for watching! :)

#335115 Thanks!

I started to do some proper sound deadening with butyl rubber and aluminum foil based mats from StP. I tried to add as little weight as possible to the roof without compromising the sound deadening effect.

Image

Image

Image

This car will have everything, so i needed to do some memo about what OEM-colored wires i need to add (this is just a quick list, there is much more)

Options:

- Automatic climate control, outside temp sensor: Two wires: Pink, Brown
- Cruise Control, actuator: Four wires: Colors: Brown, Black, Brown/Black, Brown/White
- Parking Pole: Four wires: Colors: Yellow/Red, Yellow/White, Red, Black
- Front fog lights: Two wires: Colors: Blue/Red, Black
- Headlight washers: Two wires: Colors: Red/Yellow, White/Black
- Electrical adjustable headlights: Factory installed
- Alarm sensors to hood: * some wire...
- USDM Side lights: Three wires per side.
- Alarm siren: *some wire...
- ABS/TCS sensors: ABS-main harness
- Speakers: Four wires per side (front)
- OEM central locking actuator to drivers door: Two wires added: Colors: White/Red, Yellow/Red
- JDM Low Fuel indication
- JDM Door Open indication

etc etc etc, much more to come :)

#335116 Then EG9 JDM Power Folding mirrors arrived:

I took a gamble and wished that they would fit to EG4 power mirror bases. I was wrong:

EG9 PFM base:

Image

EG4 HB PM base:

Image

EG8 PM base:

Image

As you can see, all my existing mirror bases were incompatible with these PFM:s :(

Image

I disassembled the mirrors, cleaned and greased the "gearboxes":

Image

Image

Pre-wired for heat:

Image

Gears and belts:

Image

Cleaned:

Image

There was some shit wiring work from previous owners:

Image

Image

Then i bought 9 months old (i mean its bought 9 months ago brand new from Honda) Optional Audio Console:

Image

I will use all the parts except the grey cover. I will need to hunt black cover to this console so it match to the interior.
By HiTec
#335117 I started to do the wiring for the Power Folding. I will also do the wiring for heat, cause i can never know when a good PFHM switch will come for sale :)

Image

All the added wires will be OEM-colored. Left mirror Power Folding = Green Yellow, Blue/Red

Image

Image

Heat: Black, Blue/Red

Image

Five pin OEM power central locking= Yellow/Red, White/Red:

Image

Waiting for the door lock to arrive:

Image

Packed up, waiting for install:

Image

Central locking was behaving strangely and i found the cause for it. Someone has used wrong grease inside the connector:

Image

I also bought brand new sunroof switch, it came inside Honda OEM-package.

USDM and UKDM/EDM switch differences(see the color and surface differences):

#335118 More interior dissassembly:

Image

EK rails :x :

Image

FAS pollen filter

Image

Image

Image

Same filter from -97 / 40 000km

Image

Next thing to remove was the floor mat:

Image

No suprises here:

Image

As you can see, OEM sound deadening was too easy to remove:

Image

Image

Next thing. Cleaning the carpet:

Image

After vacuum cleaner:

Image

After pressure washer and some detergent:

Image

I also prewired JDM Low Fuel Indicator. Wire color: Green/Red:

Image
By HiTec
#335119 Repairing door sills:

Image

Image

Cleaning all the stains thats left from OEM- sound deadening mats, and installing StP Silver. (Cleaning is not fully done in this pic).

Image

Then i bought brand new EG/EJ Parking Pole from Malaysia. Never used in OEM Honda package:

Image

Takes up to two weeks to come, cant wait to have it! :hehe:
By HiTec
#335120 I bought pair of EG HB OEM manual side mirrors to complete my Power Folding mirror installation:

Image

Image

Image

Image

Also ABS-main harness came from Germany:

Image

Image

Image

Image

I also tried the car without OEM-spoiler, and i think it looks much nicer without it :)

Image

Removing even the tiniest surface rust spots. I´m not going to leave _any_ rust under the sound deadening mat:

#335140 Your attention to detail is just amazing, I'll be keeping an eye on this thread :thumb:

#335328 Thanks, i just try to do my best :)

I bought BNIB EG parking pole:

Image

And also brand new (came inside a Honda Access box) 2DIN Console:

Image

BTW, Thanks Honda for using same parts in Jazz/Insight/S2000... <3

I found out that Insight front left power door lock motor/switch fits right into EG/EJ:s locks. So now you can have OEM power door lock also in drivers door. Great for alarm/remote control central locking systems :)

No more aftermarket actuators (i dont know who´s pic this is, sorry for using it!):

Image

That causes this to happen:

Image

This is the drivers side stock door lock with switch:

Image

And here is the lock with Insight door lock motor/switch combo:

Image

Comparison:

Image

Image

Completely plug and play :)

Image

Image

I needed to use spare ABS-sensor connector. I didnt have any grey 2-way Honda connectors :(

Image

Done! Ready for Avital 5303 :)

Image
By HiTec
#335585 Cluster harness, smaller connector: JDM Low Fuel Indicator, PIN7, Green/Red...:

Image

...goes through the dashboard main harness with a little help of WD-40 pipe :D...

Image

... to the dashboards main connector (blue) pin 2. (In EDM-cars pin1 is already in use, so it is needed to use next free pin which is pin2.)

Image

Then i needed to think what is the correct route to ABS-main harness. The only spot that seemed right was this:

Image

Harness clips was broken, but fortunately i had some spares.. :)

Image

I cleaned the installation location, and protected it from the rust using Tectylin ML.

Image

Image

Testing the correct route:

Image

Image

Image

I didnt wrapped the harness yet, cause i still need to remove there 4DR rear door lock/window wires:

Image
