Turbo and Supercharger discussion

#150026 Hello all,

I will be owning a d16 95 JDM sedan in a couple of weeks and decided on boosting it rather than a b16 swap (bored of b16 which i had on my hatch a few years ago).

Aiming for a power output of 180whp - 210whp (5~8psi) with :

stock bottom end
eBay cast manifold + turbo (???)
450cc DSM injectors
p28 chipped and tuned with crome
sard fuel regulator
255 walbro fuel pump
custom FMIC
custom pipes ranging from 2 inches to 2.5 inches (for downpipes, exhaust ,IC and etc.)
head ported and polished
exedy semi-racing clutch

I have done some research and came across a blur point on selecting the right turbo for my setup. It will be a daily driven car and be use (sometime) for auto-x and maybe a fun street drag once in a while :D and i really love low to mid power band compared to top end (Kinda freaky when it comes to top speed)

There are a couple of options such as the T25, T3/T4 .57AR (Turbine)/.50AR (Comp) and the T3/T4 .48AR (Turbine)/.42AR (Comp) turbos which i think suites my needs.

Can any of experienced personnel shed some light to me and help me aim the perfect turbo. :)

The t3/t4 .48AR/42AR seems to be my favorite as it is in the middle of the 3 options (Bigger than the T25 and smaller than the .57AR/.50AR) if i'm not mistaken.

Even if i had the chance to do full bottom end upgrade (in the future) i would be satisfied with 300whp in which i think the t3/t4 .48AR/.42AR can support. Am i right ?

Thank you in advance... :thumb:

#150046 I am pretty sure that Cast Iron Manis, atleast like the one you are looking at Wont let you have Power Stearing when you install it as the piping would go where the pump needs to be.

If you want a Low Boost setup I would recommend a Small turbo that would spool really quickly, So a T25 would work quite well. It will match the demands and powerband you want better.

I would recommend checking out turbod16.com. I was on there all the time when I was planning on Turboing my D16z6. They have Awesome info.

BTW Congratz on getting a JDM Sedan. :thumb:

thx chrono404...well i better be looking for a mani that can keep my a/c and power steering...i had been to turbod16.com and going throw some builds/projects there and it is really an awesome place to seek references... :thumb:

but not to forget here as well...i wouldn't have found that turbod16.com if it wasn't for civic-eg.com 8)

T25 will be my choice for now as its easier and cheaper to get a T25 from a sr20det in a local junk yard...that will work rite ??

i have a cast iron mani on my z6 and i still have power steering... you most likely won't be able to keep your A/C depending on your downpipe choice.

i would also check into a t25 which would spool quickly :thumb:

#157468 Don't need the Walbro pump or fuel regulator. Wasted money.

Don't port/polish the head. It's more wasted money at that power level.

For the turbo you can go legit and get a T3 super 60 for $549 from Autoworks, or give the eBay turbo a whirl with your fingers crossed.

For a clutch try a tuner or dragger clutch from LSD motorsports with a sprung 6 puck. They are proven to be good clutches for a bargain price.

Don't take offense, just trying to save you some cash.

#157622 i agree with LSD motorsports...i love the tuner series clutch i have with a 6 puck..

i would still incorporate the walbro in the tank, nothing is worse than fuel starvation, at high rpm's and high hp (which i think you are going to be making enough to need a 255) the last thing you want is lack of fuel. on that note, you dont need an upgraded fuel rail or pressure regulator unless you want to go big later on down the line....

i would also look in to a "real" turbocharger because i'm on my second ebay one, it's nice to know that your shit will work for a while :thumb:
