#292954 Since its cold this time of year. I noticed when i drive may car the temp gauge needle always drops to cold every time once my car starts cruising. So I think my thermostat is bad.

My motor is a first gen B16a. The Thermostat is from a 2000 Si

Went to the dealership and bought this for $46

Thermostat is located here under its housing
Image

Had to remove my intake to get better access
Image

Removed these 2 bolts to free the housing

Pulled off the housing and this is what underneath...My messed up thermostat, I took note in the direction its facing
Image

Here what is looks like when i pulled it out.

The rubber that supposed surround the opening is mostly gone
Image

Now putting the thermostat in...I used a new gasket, better safe than sorry. . I remembered the ridges. because there is only one way the thermostat is going to go in.

Now i installed everything. Then started the car with the radiator cap open. I put water as the radiator water level was low. Had to wait till the motor was fully warmed up to put more water cuz the thermostat was still closed.
Image

Couldn't find out if the thermostat fixed the problem. It was 70 degress today compared to the usual 30-40 degrees. So I will post later if the problem got fixed.

Yes I did! The night before i bought it I couldn't see through my window because it fogged up so bad (20 degrees F). Even though i wiped it, it came back within a few seconds.

I rather be safe spending a lil bit of money than more in a crash.

#304662 So i did my safety inspection today. In order to pass all i needed was a tire and a front wheel alignment. But, he also recommended a rear brake change since i was 1/32 away from the limit and turn the rotors. So I authorized him to do it.

Five hours later i get the bill! I had to drop a couple bills to get her fixed. I was told my rear camber sleeves were stuck(whoever installed in the first place didn't put anti-seize,IDIOTS!). So when they tried to adjust it for the alignment...the right side just crumbled under pressure. So he went around town looking for those. On the good side, he didn't charge me the labor to change them (not to mention i was about to buy a B16 head from the manager).

Also front right tire was worn...glad i bought that tire from Discount Tire Direct and got it in two days time.

All of the work that they did I could've did it myself besides the alignment, unfortunately my job doesn't let me...I don't have the time :(

Here's my alignment sheet. Some of the specs they couldn't get it to within limits cuz the car was so low.

#304691 Im just blown away at the cost of a tstat/gasket compared to a Stant from the parts store is all.

You state inspection requires a proper alignment? Or did they suggest it due to the tire wear?

Your inspections is a lil more intense than ours here in MO.

Yeah now that you made me think of the price...I could've went to an Autozone or something. Oh well, too late now.

It didn't require an alignment but i needed one. They knew that too and they recomended it.

#305839 My Driver CV axle has been clicking since June 2011. Never had the time to change it since I go on multiple detachments.

So I bought a CV axle yesterday. I figured since i have a GSR transmission i assumed i have Integra CV axles and Intermediate shaft. If it was a Del Sol intermediate shaft I would've been screwed buying the Integra CV axles.

FYI, the Integra CV axles are female on the driver and male on the passenger. Del Sol CV axles are both male ends.

Here is my enemy(axle nut)
Image

Enemy DEFEATED!(axle nut out) Having an impact gun is useful. You can see the torn boot on the axle
Image

That is all the pics I took of the CV axle change because i didn't want to take too long. The Hobby Shop was charging $4 an hour to use all of their stuff...including the lift I was on.

The hardest part of the CV axle change was taking out the lower ball joint from the LCA. I did almost everything till i remembered a jacking manuerver from a vid i saw
http://youtu.be/ISY8bGof3bQ

Then it was pretty much a cake walk from there. Removed the axle with a hammer just banging it out. Then I found out that the axle wouldn't come out due to the fork coming from my shock blocking the axle. So i removed that from the LCA and it came out with some manuervering. I pretty much did everything in reverse to install everything. Torque the Axle nut to 130 Ft. lbs. like the manual said(that was easy).

Took it for a test drive and decided to park, stepped on the brake and the PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR!!! Right in front of me was a Concrete parking block! I was lucky the car stopped 5 inches cuz i quickly pumped the brakes :o My front bumper and lip would've been torn up :( That's when i remember i moved my front brake piston a lil bit when i tried to take out the lower pivot ball.

Drove her around some more and double checked if my brakes were working. Now there is no more clicking noise whenever I make a right turn :) and brakes definitely work :woot:

Went home and found this in my living room
