#79305 ok im re doing all my interior. i went the cheap rout and painted my interior and it looks like ass. Paint dont stick for more than a month and it all chiping away. so i went to day and bout the materials to re do all my door panels for now. its black and the inserts are going to be tourch red. along with that i will be doing all the trim and headliner too. but i want one opinion on what color i should rap my trim that goes from the front a piller by the front glass and goes over the doors and goes to the back glass. has cut in it for the seat belt. this is a four door. i want to do white, but at the same time it would look good black. so as far as that goes i want to get some what of a "how to" going on. i will take pics of the door from start to finish and i am hoping to start today and get pics tomorrow. so i hope you guys will like it and me too.

#79617 ok well i think im ready. ok here it goes re doing thou door panel. all i have to say is if you can hold a spray can and paint your stuff then you can do this.

ok first you need some materials.
pick your skin. i used red and black vinal from a local upolster shop.
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198911.jpg
and the glue, use a 3m 77adhesive spray. its used for headliners.
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198278.jpg
you may need heat gun to help soften the material to strech
razors
clean rags
dykes
a heavy clus for putting your incert back in i used a 3m duel stage glue.

ok well thats the basic stuff i used witch can be piced up at wal-mart, craft store, or a local upolstry shop. prices very on material its up to you. the more it cost the better it is.dont use cheapist stuff on this it wont hold up.
ok well the first thing i did was remove the door panel.
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198910.jpg
ya it looks ugly with vinal paint on it. dont paint it if you have a better rout.

next i removed the incert
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198755.jpg
this is were the dykes came in handy. you have those lil taps that are glued in to hold the incert on. i just yoused the dykes to breake the glue away from the panel.once done it should loook like this.
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198541.jpg
notice there is stiil the original studs here. you will see why i did not just break them off.
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198567.jpg
here is the incert out. very easy takes 10 min.

next you need to strip the old material off. the gluse will not make a good bond to the old vinal.
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198791.jpg
if you save the old skin you can use it for a guied for cutting you new material.so just keep pulling the material off like so
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198529.jpg
should come off fairly easyly do the same to you incert also. when don you should have a soft 1/4 inch foam on the panel. i replaced mine. you need to stip all this off. i used a razor and some adhesive remover by 3m. spray it on let it sit and razor it of. when done it will look like this.
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198522.jpg
now with all the panels striped i can start laying the material. ill start with the incert first.

with the incert stripped, measure out a pc of you material. spray the panel and the back side of the material with the glue. dont apply right away let the glue get a slight tackyness. then with a friend grab the material and lay it on the panle like so.
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 202344.jpg
you may need the heat gun to help strech the material. here is a shot of the panel being bonded
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198461.jpg
after you get the face nice a smoth flip the panel and get a razor. to need to cut the material away from the lil tabs we saved like so
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198351.jpg and start glueing the lil pcs to the back with the spray adhesive and work round like so
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198317.jpg
once you are done you should have a lil something like this in you hand,
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198302.jpg
there you have a incert. looks sweet.
next is the door panel its self. you want to start by putting down the foam. do it the same way as you layed the material on the incert like so
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198267.jpg
it went on realy fast.once the foam is on and dry you can lay the material. spray the foam agin and the back side to your vinal. lay thematerial on top like so
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198249.jpg
we layed the panel on the material and fliped it over and strted to flaten with a heat gun and some rags. carfull not to strech to much.should look like this
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198236.jpg
work it till its flush all over if you strech to far you will cause rinkels. once you have it on the front of the panel you need to do the same thing as the incert and rap the material around and cut and paste like this
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198317.jpg when fineshed it should look like this
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198226.jpg
so know your done with that. now you need to put the incert back on.once on you should see the lil tabs come threw and clue with the heavy 2 stage glue like this
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198212.jpg
should dry in like 5 min and when done your panel should look like this
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee35 ... 198207.jpg
looks nice. this is a rough how to do. its my first one so if you have some questions just pm me and i can help. i really hope you guys like this.

#79631 you can do any color. the material comes in diff thickness. its in oz. like 25oz 30oz. you can use diiff vinal. i saw some carbon fiber. comes in white black and a few other colors. looks heel cool. i think i will do some of my trim pces with it. but you should do your panels. 50 bucks for everything and about a whole saterday of time and you got brand new doors. or just the incerts takes bout 3 hours total to do 2 doors.

#79632 what thickness did u use?
User avatar
By egsedanguy
#79635 um the red is 28oz and the black is like 20-25oz. so use 25oz and up. on the back of the material it should have a rough feel to it, no cotton or anything like that. dont go to thin or it will rip and wont strech good. so when you go to buy it you can just give a ring to any upolster shop for auto and just ask or swing by one and look at the material they have.most cost 10$ a yard al the way to like 35-40$a yard.if you are useing standard colors try at walmart ot a fabric store. they carry most the stuff you need. but if you were to use ostrig, snake, carbon fiber,or real lether you have to get it from a shop or a place that sells that type.
