may need to change and or check the level of the fluid normally when it dosent go into gear immediately in an auto the most common problem in my head is the fluid level if not the right level it wont do anything.....and if the fluid hasnt been changed in awhile id suggest doing that as well as its just as easy as changeing the engine oil. Tho with a longer tube and funnel lol....
the worst case scenario is the gears are starting to wear depending on your mileage but id check the fluid first its a quick and easy process if it still continues there may be a need to change the trans out.....or there coudl be something else wrong but im 89% sure its the fluid given what you have said thusfar...
