#206533 Well ive had a mechanic mate over with some tools i dont have and weve established there is power going to the dizzy. I tested the coil and there is no spark there either. We also tested the spare used coil i had off the car and nothing is getting through that either... Can you guys clear something up for me, the coil unit in the dizzy, ive heard that being called many different things, ignition control module, ignitor, coil... Is the ignitor seperate to the icm?

#225276 Evening all,

Its snowing now in the south UK so my car needs to be runing again ASAP, I'm gonna spend some time on it this weekend. I now have all the gear, no excuses and unfortunately no idea... :lol: I will be having someone who knows electrics coming to the car on Saturday to pick up where I had to leave off to trouble shoot the ignition system to isolate where the spark is dying so wanted to know;

Is there a reference somewhere online that will tell me (or can anyone on here tell me) the resistances and voltages expected in the different elements of the ignition system? basically from the distributor back? I mean I have replaced the ICM and the coil (for used parts), cleaned the points in the cap but I'm getting nowhere so I need to have it professionally trouble-shot.

To recap;

The engine turns over fine
There is DEFINETELY NO SPARK
The relays click 3 times
Fuel pump hums
There is a ECL for the IAT
Smell of fuel when turning over for a while
The engine started one day, failed the next (but had been slightly struggling to start for weeks)

My only thought is that something has died along the way that the signal is sent to the dizzy, or Ive been unlucky and have replaced parts in the dizzy that are faulty too (which is why I want it all tested). Also, what would the ECL show for a dead ECU?? I believe I have a code 10 but want to be sure.

Sorry its a long post but I'm seriously missing my EJ!!

Cheers in advance guys :P

Edit: heres a pic to pull at your heart strings :lol:

#225379 Ive been reading what seems like a great guide at - http://www.askmehelpdesk.com/cars-truck ... drpf2if3=#

anyone think this would match my symptoms??

a. Tachometer Test. Disconnect tachometer wire (if equipped). A shorted tachometer can prevent the vehicle from starting. The blue wire going to the Ignition Control Module (Ignitor) should be unfastened. Try starting the car again. If it starts, the problem is with the tachometer. If it still doesn't start:

#225420 you can try this so see if your ignition switch is bad

turn the key to the on position then
take a wire from the power on the battery and touch it to to lil clip on your starter that the ingnition hooks to, its the lil clip on the starter that the wire slides off

#225422 it bypasses the ignition swtich. which could be bad
