#138198 Ok guys, so it's Sunday, already one week since I don't have a car. I checked my VSS sensor and I found out the screw that holds it in place with the trany is broken!! and there is a piece of screw blocking the hole so I cant screw it back :O what do I do now?

Here is pic of where the screw is stuck in the hole on the trany, is there a way to get that piece out?

I moved on to the TPS now, and the only thing I saw wrong with it, is that it wasn't making the right contact with the throttle and that there is 2 lines for my TPS.

Here is a pic of the 2 sockets that fit on my TPS, the green one is that one that has been on it, the other one in red just hangs around. Is this normal?

After I did all these I took the car for a spin, and as usual, everything was ok until my car got warmed up. Then my check engine light came back on and my car started acting up. I drove it back to the parking spot and read my CEL again. Now it only shows me code 4 which is my CKP <.< the other 2 codes didnt showed up this time.

Now I'm pretty sure I need to change my CKP which is inside my Distributor. I want to know if my Disctrbutor is a OBD1 or OBD2 before I buy it. How can I find out? I just know my engine is a B16a2 but I don't know from what car or year they got it...... will it make a difference if I buy the wrong one?

Here is a pic of my current distributor for refference ^^ / Oh and btw, do you see that oil on my radiator hose? That is coming from the botton of my distributor <.<

Thanks again guys.

#139227 Hey guys, I got my distributor today! and I installed it already. I took the car for a drive and warm it up and everything seemed perfect......... until I notice my vtec isn't kicking in..... Now I wonder if I made the wrong choice by buying the OBD1 distributor or what could be the problem? My speedometer is still not working due to the VSS problem. But why is my vtec not working now?

vtec will not engage with the speed sensor not working. you have to be "rolling" or above like 3 or 4 mph for it to work.

speedo at 0 = No Vtec

#149162 Hey guys, it's me, first of all, thanks for all the people who has reply to this post before.

Now here is the thing, after I changed my distributor as I said before, I still have the problem with my VSS (speed sensor). Since I found out that the bolt that holds it in place to the tranny was broken, my focus was to get that broken bolt removed and bolt the VSS back in place.

Yesterday I took my car to a local shop to get the broken bolt remove and get my VSS back in place. They told me they could remove the bolt no pleblem. However, they call me later on saying that it was difficult and that it will take until today to get it ready. This morning he calls me and he said he could remove the bolt and instead they made a new hole to place another bolt on. Still, he said my speedometer is not working and now he's saying my VSS is bad. I find this weird because the VSS used to work just fine when you place it right. Like sometimes it will jump up and down and stuff too...

My question is, is it the VSS or is it that the new hole they made to place the VSS isn't supposed to be there and the angle of the VSS is making it not work? This guy is still charging me 60$ even though they didn't fix my problem, should I pay him?

Thanks in advance.

#149164 The VSS is in it's position from the factory for a reason. It works. Any other position and it won't work properly. It's either a gear driven unit or a magnetic unit (I don't recall, I've only seen one once), and if it's not lined up properly, i.e. in the right bolt hole, it's not going to function at all and could potentially break off inside your transmission. Bad thing.

If your mechanic can't get the bolt out, you might need to find a new mechanic. It's not that hard to use a bolt extracter.

I'm also wondering where this guy drilled a hole for the bolt...I hope he didn't drill all the way through the case.

This is what I'm scare of! I don't even know what to tell this mechanic but I don't want to pay for something I didn't ask for.....

#149225 1: take your car to a new mechanic to be checked out.
2: appon inspection by the new mechanic if he finds that the old mechanic damaged your car in any way, from work you never consented too.
3: then dont pay him, and take him to small claims court for effing up your car. even a 14 year old with a dremel can remove a broken bolt.
