Adding a Cam to his existing engine(what I belive he is talking about) is totally different then swapping in the DOHC D16A1. That engine came from the 86-89 Integra, It doesn't have that big of an Aftermarket following. Especially compared to the D16z6/D16y8 and B Series Engines.
The D16y5 is a SOHC VTEC-E Engine, It has 2 Stage Vtec which is cool and gives it a awesome power band. It will give any D16z6 or D16y8 a Run for its money. However its a SOHC, and is OBD2, To take advantage of it you will have to get wiring harness converters.
Swapping to a B Series DOHC engine is light years better then the OBD0 D16A1. You will get a much stronger engine, that produces more Hp stock. and they are somewhat easy to get in OBD1 which is what your car is wired for.
Your big choice now is do you want to swap in a B Series or Build up your D Series? Assuming by your screen name you have a D16z6 in your EJ1 EX Coupe. This engine takes boost quite well. I personally nitrous'd mine and smoked Turbo D's, B Series swaps, took down some H Swaps and even beat a K swap or 2. Best part about building your D is the look on the persons face after you pop your hood to show what beat there K/H/B Swap.

Yes you can!.. there is a DOHC D engine that honda produced i forget the engine code it self, wanna say its a d16y5, and its vtec, however its obdo but it is possible. However its a turd... better off just going and getting a 96-00 SI engine and trans..
