ALL interior stayed. Full 12pt cage, I built around the back seat so it stayed (of course if somone were to ride back there they have absolutley no place to set thier feet and they would have a hell of a time climbin in lol).

heater stayed, stereo stayed, built the cage so head liner and all panels can still be removed tho.

Goal was to build a fast civic(current set up will be low elevens, might be able to break high tens later in the season.), that kept FULL interior, and on a SOHC. goal almost accomplished, track opens in three weeks. :)

What does that have to do with Weight reduction tho :?

#49182 If you have a SOHC, you can get the lower alternator bracket and front left lower engine mount from a Civic VX. They're aluminum vs iron, and will drop more weight than a lot of the stuff listed in this thread. I'm using them on an OBD2 D series in my EG.

ONLY the VX has the aluminum parts. I checked out the CX and they are indeed iron.

Naa brotha... wasnt trying to be a dick. Its dope you are going to break into the tens but still has nothing to do with weight reductions thats I was saying.

#99478 I've got one piece of advice on this in regard to removing sound deadening, and that's use plumbers pipe freeze instead of dry ice/a heatgun. Comes in an aerosol can, you dont need to spray much at all and it just lifts off after a few seconds, barely leaves a mark either. I'm in the process of this myself and cant reccomend the stuff enough.

#99525 ill try that above:)

im doing those door cut aways too and im also boot cuttign dust sheilds behind brake discs ect

#99636 Hold out on that! After getting the seats out after posting that and tackling the serious stuff, I realised it's not quite as effective as I thought with the thicker stuff. Ended up removing deadening from the boot, under the rear seat and rear footwell. My carpet and interior is going back in, so I didn't bother getting rid of absolutely all the residue, although Gunk and a big flathead screwdriver seemed to work quite well on it if you're not bothered about some scratches!

#99684 Grab handles, mudflaps, glovebox, audio, bonnet sound deadening pad if you have one, lightweight trailing arms (Just ordered some from ksport - £85)... that's off the top of my head, there'll be plenty more I'm sure.
By Adzgtr
#99723 im keeping most of the interior in tacked jsut making it lighter as its a daily driver :) the trailing arms sound a sweet mod :)

#99948 I've been thinking about weight reduction in general recently, more specifically for the people around who say "it'll make you faster".

Lets just analyse for a second.

A UK VTi hatchback weighs 1080kg. Book time 0-60mph is what 7.2s? Not bad.

Compare and contrast with an EM1. Same engine, heavier car. 1250kg to be exact making it a whopping 170kg of difference. 0-60mph? 7.9s.

Wow, what a difference. 0.7s give or take in acceleration, from losing 170kg. Epic.

Now, I know that weight reduction has other benefits. Slightly reduced braking distances, teeny bit more nimble and easier to handle as you have less weight to transfer, higher MPG (quite possibly the most boring topic ever to grace the internet) blah blah blah

But, consider that in a vast majority of cars you'll struggle to lose 50kg or so if that without being really stupid. Is it honestly worth all the effort some go to for supposedly 'free performance'?

Personally for all the effort I just put in I'd want significantly more gains. And consider what you have to put up with, increased noise levels, less comfort...

Worth it? hmmm I'm not so sure. Yeah, if you're building a track weapon go nuts, strip the lot out. If you're not planning on hitting the track that often though and drive on the roads fairly regularly is there much point? Me, I'm gonna say no. I'll be very happy staying cool with my 'heavy' A/C, comfortable with having a full interior and somewhat reduced noise levels.

Just thought I'd throw a curve ball in the mix.
