im planning to buy a SI eg hatch soon. whats the difference between the dx and si? is it only the rear discs? is it hard to change the rear to disc if i cant find an si. is there anything i should look out for? like under the body rust? would a complete engine swap solve mechanical problems in case i get a crap civic.

si also has a d16 1.6 vtec engine..

dx has a 1.5

power mirrors, sun roof, rear disc conversion isnt' too hard if u have the right parts.

Our hatches rust in the rear quarter panel and the wheel well, look for rust in those areas. And remove the piece of rubber on the lip of the fender, this accumulate moisture and debris that later on turn to rust. GL with the buy.

If you were to get a dx... you can easily due a rear disc brake conversion. Also you can make your car have power windows and what not.... the only thing you wont be able to do is get a sun roof... now if you had some cutting and fabrication skills.. haha

Which ever one you get, just do a 5 lug conversion and a motor swap and good suspensions set up and call it a day :D

#1 thing to watch out for is the rust.
replacing an engine takes a fraction of the time that it would take to repair the honda rust. See the link below for the full repair of the famous honda rust:

basically just look out for rust? because im planning to do a complete engine swap(clutch, etc...) later on..would an engine swap make it run like almost new again?

exacly if you already know you're doing a swap, then lookout for rust. As Teal mention a swap you'll do it faster than fixing rust (and he knows about rust, look how his used to look...). So as long as all you want is a hatch and not a specific model look for one that has no rust and obviously a clean title. :thumb:

Differences

Some of the other differences:

Si has:

Rear Disc Brakes
Power Sun Roof
Power Side Mirrors
Cruise Control
Power Steering
1.6 Vtec motor
Better tranny
Better Exhaust

That's all I can think of for now.

Good luck!
