#40596 K20 is indeed the new B-Series but some of us "like me" cant afford the K20. Would you rather save up for the K20 or build a B-series and have some money left over?

#40601 If you had to liken the K series to the B Series it indeed is similer.

Just like everyone wanted to get a B16, People want to get a K20. They wind high but have less torque compared to there bigger brothers.

The B18c Has more torque and power compared to the B16. Just as the K24a2(TSX) Does. All K24's have more torque then the the K20. However if you want to have the Performance Vtec(Explained below) you want 1) the K24a2 or 2) K24a/a2 block with K20a/a2 Head.

If I personally was going to build a car where money was no objective, and for my own personal use. I would get a K24a2. It has the Performance Vtec(Just like Vtec on B-Blocks) Compared to the New Economy Vtec (1 intake valve open all the time, 2nd valve comes on under vtec. Similar to Vtec-E).

#40607 ok that may be true with money anything can perform but i have read the that k swaps are anywhere from 8 to 10k with a tune. thats a bit ridiculous dont you think?

#40609 About 6-7 thousand of that is likely in the motor alone. Those bad boys don't come cheap by any means. While the B series is a great platform, the K series is a greater platform. That's not to say that you can't make power from a B series, because you sure as hell can, but with the K series, there's a lot more room for growth. It really all comes down to your application however. You can get a goo 225-250 horsepower out of an N/A B series, and about 300-400 under boost without breaking the bank to terribly hard. The K series has the best flowing head Honda has ever produced, and responds amazingly well to N/A mods and has seen 300 horsepower N/A. Boosting a K series has made some astonishing numbers, but it is very expensive. Do some research for yourself though and really figure out what meets your desired platform. Good luck :D

#42527 you can get an k20A JDM ITR one for around 5200 from n1concepts and then the rest of the crap can cost easily up to another 2-4 grand depending on what you buy.

A nice B series build can cost around 4-5grand but its usually easily dropped in to our cars for less than 400bucks.

Depending on the purpose of the car it can vary on which is best. Personally, I like to do some track racing and a K20 hands down will be the better reliable performer on the track since you can leave the engine relatively stock with basic i/h/e mods and make as much as a semi built B series.

#42577 So not one of you would want a K20R if it was swapped in your car for free? You'd say, " No thanks, I'll take a B series. "?

I'm too poor for a K too but I'll be real and choose the better motor.

#42595 A friend of mine just finished up his K-swap in his EG hatch, he had around $7000 into it without tuning and cutting a few corners. No doubt the K is a better platform and has more potential then the B-series. If I had the cash Id do a K but if i was on a budget i'd definatley go B.

CTR ECU
Axles
Shifter cables
6 speed trans (paid 400 @ junker)
Conversion harness

and yes i have built a few B-series

#42632 k series motors are nice but i personaly like the b series better just call me old school but they are great platforms for tunning and performance. if i were to get a k20 it would have to be the k20z3 out of the fg si. it comes with a 6spd and a lsd too. best k series in my opinon.

#42634 unless you get a killer deal on the K series, and the mounts and other parts for dirt cheep then sure why not go K

But the B series is basically a drop in, little to no modification required. hence the reason i'd go with a B series myself.

#42818 B > K

The B series are just awsome, you can feel, hear and smell the vtec when you have a proper build B serie. The B has loads of potential, but some people are just forgetting that :(

And nevertheless the B is far more cheaper then a K and it is almost all the time Plug & Play 8)
